I love this Doctor (I really don't-healthy eating & exercising is of course best!)

Q: Doctor, I've heard that cardiovascular exercise can prolong life; is this true?
A: Your heart is only good for so many beats, and that's it... don't waste them on exercise. Everything wears out eventually. Speeding up your heart will not make you live longer; that's like saying you can extend the life of your car by driving it faster. Want to live longer? Take a nap.

Q: Should I cut down on meat and eat more fruits and vegetables?
A: You must grasp logistical efficiencies. What does a cow eat? Hay and corn. And what are these? Vegetables. So a steak is nothing more than an efficient mechanism of delivering vegetables to your system. Need grain? Eat chicken. Beef is also a good source of field grass (green leafy vegetable). And a pork chop can give you 100% of your recommended daily allowance of vegetable products.

Q: Should I reduce my alcohol intake?
A: No, not at all. Wine is made from fruit. Brandy is distilled wine, that means they take the water out of the fruity bit so you get even more of the goodness that way. Beer is also made out of grain. Bottoms up!

Q: How can I calculate my body/fat ratio?
A: Well, if you have a body and you have fat, your ratio is one to one. If you have two bodies, your ratio is two to one, etc.

Q: What are some of the advantages of participating in a regular exercise program?
A: Can't think of a single one, sorry. My philosophy is: No Pain...Good!

Q: Aren't fried foods bad for you?
A: YOU'RE NOT LISTENING!!! .... Foods are fried these days in vegetable oil. In fact, they're permeated in it. How could getting more vegetables be bad for you?

Q: Will sit-ups help prevent me from getting a little soft around the middle?
A: Definitely not! When you exercise a muscle, it gets bigger. You should only be doing sit-ups if you want a bigger stomach.

Q: Is chocolate bad for me?
A: Are you crazy? HELLO Cocoa beans! Another vegetable!!! It's the best feel-good food around!

Q: Is swimming good for your figure?
A: If swimming is good for your figure, explain whales to me.

Q: Is getting in-shape important for my lifestyle?
A: Hey! 'Round' is a shape!

Well, I hope this has cleared up any misconceptions you may have had about food and diets..

And remember:

'Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways - Chardonnay in one hand - chocolate in the other - body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming 'WOO HOO, What a Ride'

AND.....

For those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health. It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting nutritional studies.

1. The Japanese eat very little fat
and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat
and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

3. The Chinese drink very little red wine
and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine
and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

5. The Germans drink a lot of beers and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.

CONCLUSION

Eat and drink what you like.
Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

George, can we expect more phtots???? we like what we see......

the slide show is all the flower show images i got yesterday.

I have yet to fully go through the hockey game shots. Ive been sort of relaxing today in recovery mode. The odd thing is, when i shoot something the good shots do stand out but many times the ones i overlook will look better a day or so after the event. Not always but many times it just seems to happen for some odd reason.

This should be the kickoff of my spring weed bloom shooting as things start sprouting up here. crocii then the violets and all the other wild blooms that appear courtesy of mr and mrs deer's gifts and other objects wash onto the lawn here

Birds in flight are not easy to shoot. 1 the shutter speed required to catch them in flight needs to be relatively fast and 2 with longer lenses you have a very narrow field of view of what is happening in front of you and the camera. Also, with longer length lenses even the slightest movement of either the shooter, the camera or the lens itself can blurr the shot which often means a tripod has to be used.

Alot of bird shooters work from a blind and know their subjects habbits such as you do with hoot so you can plan how you wish to shoot hoot . I would surmise many of the top notch bird shooters can wait hidden in one location for hours just to get that one shot if they get it at all

Birds are rather unwilling models and just wont pose for us. They are rather flighty and will fly off the handle in a fit if they are provoked. Even more so than a cute puppy or putty tat and almost as bad as snotty prima donna runway model we hear about from time to time rofl

A while back I posted a story my mother sent me about an Alaskan eagle, 5M (Majesty), who was found entangled in a fence on Fort Hunter Liggett Military Reservation here in California in February. She had been sent to the Pacific Wildlife Care facility in Morro Bay for treatment of her injuries when I first heard about her.

Mom just sent me this update of Majesty's story. Unfortunately, it is a sad one - :'(

Quote:

Bald Eagle Unable to Recover, Euthanized

In early June 1993, a bald eagle egg hatched in a nest in the Tongass National Forest near Juneau, Alaska. As part of a translocation program, the chick that emerged was relocated to Big Sur, California in July of 1993 where the local population of eagles was extirpated. This eagle collected in Alaska was given a leg band, and identified as 5M. Due to the use of pesticide DDT, which caused egg failure, the number of breeding pairs of bald eagles in the lower 48 states reached a low of 417 pairs by 1963 and soon after the species was listed as endangered. However, eagles in Alaska remained abundant.

Bald eagle 5M was raised with eleven other eagles in a tall, 30-foot tower in central California and given fish every day until she and her nest mates were ready to fly for the first time. Just before her release we attached a radio transmitter using a backpack harness so we could track her fate. On August 1, 1993 5M took her first flight. As expected she returned to the release tower after her release to receive the fish Ventana Wildlife Society biologists were giving her by placing on the tower before dawn. Each day, biologists recorded the whereabouts of each eagle until they dispersed away. 5M traveled north in the fall of 1993 to places unknown but she returned each year for several years. We believe she began to breed in the area by 2002 and raised nine chicks.

On February 1, 2009, 5M was found entangled in a fence on Fort Hunter Liggett Military Reservation. A military police officer removed her from the fence and called Pacific Wildlife Care who initially treated her. From there, 5M was transferred to the SPCA for Monterey County and veterinarian Dr. Amy Wells and SPCA staff treated her wounds. Both wings were badly injured. University of California at Davis' Raptor Center was called to help and she was transferred one last time. Veterinarian Dr. Michelle Hawkins supervised 5M's treatment. Unfortunately, the wing and tendon damage was just too much. Not only would she never fly again but she would have required a type of wing amputation that is inhumane and so she was euthanized on March 2, 2009. “While it was incredibly difficult decision for us, we felt that her prognosis was poor and that we should not prolong the suffering of this majestic bird”, said Dr. Hawkins. Kelly Sorenson, Executive Director of Ventana Wildlife Society said, “5M was among the first to breed in central California after a 60-year absence and because of her success she won’t be the last. 5M led a full life and contributed to her species' survival and recovery in the Central California Coast Region. We will remember 5M forever.”

Ventana Wildlife Society released 70 bald eagles, 5M being just one of these birds. We recover species of wildlife one individual at a time. In 2008, a total of 23 chicks were raised in wild nests in central California, bringing the total to 143 since 1995. In 2007, the bald eagle was removed from the endangered species list primarily because of the banning of DDT and successful translocation and release programs.

EDIT: I was just over in the Questions thread and someone had asked about 5M's euthanization. In Dr. Sharpe's reply he says "One of our females, A-23, appears to be the female that has replaced her at the nest at Fort Hunter Liggett." That sounds promising! :soar:

George people might think we tried to kill each other yesterday, with us complaining about how sore we both are. Next time please walk a little slower. I felt like a Geisha walking 10 paces behind the man! rofl rofl rofl rofl

So do you want to try shooting at my Club's Specialty? I will be working in the Confirmation Ring, which is strictly German Shepherd's. The Obedience Ring will be all Breed. Anything from a Chihuahua (smallest breed), to a Irish Woldhound (the largest breed). Obedience is on both Sat & Sun. and My Classes are only on Sun., but I will be there Sat to help out. I get points for my Club Jacket by working the shows. I have Sponsored several Classes, which will also give me Point's.

Good night Peetie. Please cheer up my friend. I can't take you being "down". I breaks my heart.

Will try to Post a lot more over this weekend on Ireland in the other Thread.

No one is Posting anything about the First Annual Easties Get Together in September. This is going to be an awesome experience. So come one, come all and we will have a ball! Post if you will be attending in the other Thread. We need to know how many are planning on coming. So I know how much to buy.
