Did anyone hear we had a close call Tuesday with a BIG Astroid? If I recall correctly it passed within 38,000 miles of us. I would feel better had we been told something was done to try to overt a catastrophic event.

Just heard yesterday on the news! What got my attention --- It was closer than the moon to earth. :8O:

Could they get pictures from any of our satellites or the Intl. Space Station?

(Did you hear that big whoooosh a while back???) :P

Over December through March is when the "Winter Texans" come in droves to the Gulf Coast from all over the US. They certainly help the economy here. My DH and I always go down to our favorite restaurant to hear the local jam sessions (country music, blue grass, gospel). This time a year, I just found out that there are at least two events going on somewhere every night of the week. Last night, we went to the Lagoons RV Park. There are a bunch of these where people can come in with their RVs. They have full hook ups, laundry rooms, and a big Rec Room where the various bands play. A lot of these are made up of Winter Texans who stay at certain parks for the music. Many are musicians and participate.

Last night, we had lots of guitars, keyboards, steel guitars, violins, a mandoline (sp?), and for the first time, we saw a guy playing the spoons! :P He had a suitcase of all different ones for different sounds. Also, for the first time, a lady was playing the "washboard" (not your grandmother's washboard). It was beautiful - on a strap - hung around her neck and provided a unique sound for the music.

We have another to go to Friday afternoon, going over to Port Aransas island that night, another on Saturday.... Phew! I'm glad it's almost over. Can't get anything done for music!

George, have you ever considered using Flickr for your pictures? One thing I like about Flickr is that when you upload your shots, it will pull the EXIF data as well and create a link to that off your photo page, so people can look at it and see what settings were used to take the picture. I pay for a paid membership for the privilege of unlimited upload rights, but it's quite reasonable.

Oh!!! And a bit of really GOOD NEWS this morning!!

"Eagle survives crash through truck windshield

By SCOTT SONNER (Associated Press Writer)
From Associated Press
March 05, 2009 6:53 AM EST
RENO, Nev. - The eagle has landed - with a thud - after crashing through the windshield of a tractor-trailer on a Nevada highway. State wildlife officials said Wednesday that a 15-pound golden eagle with a 7-foot wing span has a swollen head but otherwise appears unhurt after crashing into a Florida truck driver's big rig on Monday.

I known alot who do use it, but , its the scandihoovian in me, I am too cheap.

If you thought scots were cheap as the sterotype goes, you aint seen nothing til youve seen a group of scandinavians trying to squeeze a nickel til the buffalo ....well you know the old saying

I have started working on more hockey shots from last night, but its a slow task. When using the motor drive one often gets a sequence of shots with most being "rejects"

I am posting this shot of a slam into the boards just for what i thought was an interesting illustration to show how many of the pros get thier shots

Posted Image

Note the photographer seated up at the glass. If you notice you will see a hole int he glass where he has his camera. Prior to this i had asked one of the security persons near there if they had ever seen a photographer's lens get slammed into either by a puck or player. He said hes never seen it and that the pros who regularly shoot seem to have their timing right to prevent it. He did say however, "Well there always is a first time for everytyhing". I know if i were to do something like that to shoot with the expensive glass they shoot with and it happend to me naughty words would have been heard round the world. :clk: rofl (at least they can deduct their gear as buisness expenses but i cant)
