This week was a very busy week on both Santa Cruz and Santa Rosa Islands. Amanda was on Santa Rosa last week and reported very exciting news that A-08 and A-22 are using the same nest again. She hiked out to the nest and saw an eagle sitting in incubation position, and later saw both adults sharing incubation duties. We won't know how many eggs are in that nest until chicks hatch, as you can't get a good view into the nest bowl without being too close to the eagles. She also has exciting news to report about A-64. She was able to track him down and saw him hanging out with three other eagles, including A-39 and A-60.

Meanwhile, on Santa Cruz, Rosanne and I were joined by Steffani, who was visiting Santa Cruz Island for the first time. She got to experience all the ATV driving to the different territories.

We also have exciting news to report about the Sauces pair, A-02 and A-28. It turns out that they have also decided to use their same nest again in the cypress tree. Steffani and Rosanne tried hiking around the hillsides to see if they could get a view of eggs in the nest, but apparently they have done a very good job of making a very deep nest bowl. So we will have to wait until hatching to find out how many eggs they laid.

We also surveyed other areas of the island, but found no new nests. Rosanne and I found the pair out at Fraser Point, A-24 and A-40, just hanging out.

We're still trying to figure out what A-17 and K-11 are up to, but on the day we went out there both birds were perched near Johnson's beach, so apparently they do not have a nest yet. Cedrick and Suzanne will be searching that area of the island this week in hopes of finding their nest. We also surveyed the Yellowbanks area and Cueva Valdez territory, but unfortunately were not able to see any eagles. It was a very clear day however, and on the way there, views of the mainland and the other islands were incredible. Here is a photos of the Cueva territory and of San Miguel Island taken from the drive out.

Steffani was able to explore some of the island on her own and headed out to Willows Anchorage where she got visuals of A-51 who is coming into a different plumage.

That's it for news from myself, Rosanne, Amanda, and Steffani from the Northern Islands. Cedrick should have more news to report next week.

:X: I wish the Sauces pair better luck this year - good to see they're trying again. And I'm happy that A64/Spirit is hanging around his home territory, bless his little heart! :soar:

Still no sign of A49/Cruz though? Hope she's OK. A51 is alive and well and for a while she was suspected deceased after she lost her transmitter, so I'm not giving up hope!

Great update! New year; new eggs - thank you all for all your hard work. :ok: Welcome to Santa Cruz, Steffani!

IWS Crew, Rosanne, Amanda & Steffani - I can't wipe the smile of my face. :D What a fantastic report and pictures as well. You sure are busy eagle nest searching and you have been so successful in finding these nests. Thank you so much for the news on A-64, nice to know that he is hanging out with his new buddies A-39 and A-60. Should be lots of little eaglets in the near future.

ROSANNE, AMANDA AND STEFFANI :><: Very exciting UPDATE and the photos blow me away, especially the close ups of A02 & A28! After watching Steffani's video, the eaglets on that nest will have great perches to aspire to as they grow!
Thank you all so very much----by the way, love the ATV's.

Dear S, S, R, A & C,

What a great report! And photos! And news of Spirit! I just love these updates and wish I could ride shotgun with you all during your adventures to Find The Eagles. :D

It'll be interesting to see how many eggs are hatched in the next month or so.

Do you guys also check out San Miguel or Anacapa for nests? Or do you just stick to Santa Cruz and Santa Rosa?

At any rate, I am happy that Spirit has stayed close to home. Between Limuw and the Spirit/Skye/Survivor event, I think we're all glad he is still hanging around the best place in the world he could live.

Now, if only you guys could get a visual on Cruz, we could all breathe a bit easier. :P

Thanks for the great update. The shot of the girls on the ATV's is great... you guys deserve some fun what with all the climbing and spotting and all that you do to collect critical data and pictures.

Hi Stephanie....great update and photos of all of the pairs and singletons.

How exciting to see to see such beautiful shots of the Sauces pair....and what a stroke of luck that A-02 & A-28, as well as A-08 & A-22 have returned to their previous nests.

It heartens me to see all of the pairs.....but what a relief to see that you have gotten visuals of A-64 in company with A-39 & A-60.

Thank You Rosanne, Amanda, Steffi, Cedrick and Stephanie for all of your efforts......still wish I had your jobs..... rofl :}^
