Good Morning! Artsy Mom, here's a pic from yesterday of momma feeding baby hummer. Thanks to all for the great pictures and slide shows posted yeaterday. I enjoy each and everyone of them. We're off to Blackwater Wildlife Refuge this morning. Much milder weather than last weekend. Wil try to post some later.

Eaglepedia Revisited March 3, 2008 One of the most important duties of the adult eagle is brooding, or keeping the young eaglets warm. Though eaglets have a downy coat, they, like newborn humans, are unable to maintain their proper body temperature for a number of weeks. The parent bird sits in the nest, with the chicks huddling underneath its body for a comfortable temperature. Sometimes the brooding adult will pull nest material closer about its body to provide even greater warmth. Brooding activity will be most intense for the first month. Cold weather, rain and high winds will also cause an adult to brood the eaglets close to its body. Within 2-3 weeks, the chicks will grow a second coat of down, which allows the parent bird to sit up or partially spread its wings. http://www.firstlightpower.com/eagles/default.asp ![]() (bird brood patch - not an eagle - guess they couldn't get one to hold still for photo) |

Ravens vs Eagles has answered a question posted about ravens - if you haven't seen the response - take a look - now we just need to find what kind of bird likes to harrass ravens - if we keep them pestered, maybe they'll leave the eagles alone!
