That is a cute story Elaine! It's been around since 2005 & the hippo must be full grown by now! I hope they're still "attached" to each other! :D

I have seen a pattern with Peetie too.

And what is your background for diagnosing this?

I've been watching the Norfolk Eagle Cam and on the last egg roll a moment ago I thought I saw a small hole in one of the eggs.  Could one be hatching now? :X:

I think it is too early yet for norfolk, however the NCTC nest may be hatching shortly as their first egg was laid on jan 31/feb 1 which given the 35 day incubation period brings us to that time about now for the first to hatch :)^ :X: :^:

Today is day 36 for NCTC - saw a black spot on one of the eggs, but it might be the same one we've been seeing the last couple of days. 1st egg hatch here is usually 36-38 days. I would expect a hatch Monday or Tuesday

Posted Image If you are interested -- Pandas and the Earthquake at Wolong

The earthquake at Wolong is one of the segments on this week's Untamed and Uncut. The episode is called "Catapulted Horse Racer." There is some incredible footage of the pandas during the earthquake and of the caretakers rescuing them. It actually shows one of the mountains exploding and cascading down on the compound. I was confused by something they said at the end though. They said that Wolong has been rebuilt and all the pandas are back home. I think something must have been lost in translation because it was recently announced that they were going to rebuild in Gengda Town which is west of where the research center was originally located. They are hoping to have it finished by 2011.

The same episode also features a beached whale rescue in Santa Barbara. I was very impressed that Exxon lent two of their rigs to help rescue the whale.
