George I remember seeing that in the paper here recently - I wanted to note the dates and maybe pop up there (we lived in Glen Cove for about 12 years!) Would be some great shots wouldn't it - plus I'd like to see the building.

Just checked local tv news station sites for video to no avail. However, IF they send a crew to shoot this it may be aired later today, If so, I shall try to find it on the local sites and post the link

Laurie, I hope your back is feeling better today!

Linda, Thank you. Actually my pain has decrease a bit today. I actually did my exercises without excrutiating pain, so purhaps the injection is starting to work. :)^ I still have one more injection scehduled for the 25th in case the pain isn't all gone.

But I have P.T. tomorrow, so we'll see what happens then.

So glad to hear your pain is lessening Laurie.
It is so difficult to do anything when one's back is out of whack. :( I can really empathize with you as I have had some 'issues' with my back in the past as well. :Hugs:

Yes I'm getting more and more use of the finger - a little stiff. Saw Dr. for the last time this morning - he was so nice! Got to see the therapist in an hour - probably last visit too. I can do the exercises on my own and with vacation now coming up - probably just as well.

It just looks funny but I'll always have something to talk about won't I :D

better something than nothing to talk DEB...

How's the leg feeling, George?

Feeling fabulous this am! I no longer have that annoying twinge from the screws on the outside just above the knee and i dont even feel it when biking! :)^

However, I now have a twinge from time to time on the inside of my knee but i suspect that is biomechanical and related to my supponated feet giving me the ankle pain and shin splints. I hope that my podiatrist can make the necessary adjustments to the arch supports i wear and if so ill be ready to run around all over! OF course whenever they do the adjustments it takes several visits until they make it right. My last option is to pay for the custom molded orthotics that my plan refuses to pay for despite the documentation of a deformity and trauma to the lower extremities. Dont ya just love health insurance plans and their logic?? NOT!!!!!! rofl

Anybody looking at the NCTC site camera? The eagle has been off the eggs staring down at them for quite awhile before resuming incubation. I wonder if she hears something and will have the first blessed event of this year today? She was just hovering over them staring down at the egg. While i tried to zoom in the image was fuzzy but i THOUGHT i saw a small mark or hole in one of the eggs

She is about due to hatch :^: isnt she?? :X:

Laurie am I understanding correctly that the Maine Dad has two females fighting over the right to be his mate? Maybe they should just share him like Wray and Diana did with K-01

George - there seems to be a dark spot on one of the eggs, but it has been there since last Friday....

I think the first egg is not going to hatch....so I am :X: for the other two...and if the first one does, I'll be surprised!

Today's NCTC egg stats - not including day egg was laid

Egg #1 40 days

Egg #2 38 days

Egg #3 34 days

A sad ending for a true fighter. :boohoo:

'Special bird' Brian is dead

Posted Image Posted Image

Bald eagle had been fitted with beak prostheses after being shot eight years ago

Canwest News Service
Published: Wednesday, March 11, 2009

Brian, a bald eagle that attracted international attention after it received a one-of-a-kind prosthetic beak, has died.

The eagle had lived at the North Island Wildlife Recovery Centre near Nanaimo since 2001, when it was treated for a severe gunshot wound that destroyed most of the top portion of its beak.

The injured bird was nursed back to health by centre manager Robin Campbell.

"He was a very special bird," Campbell said.

The bird's remarkable recovery was aided by his namesake, dentist Brian Andrews, who with Victoria denturist Fred Leak designed the first in a series of unique beak prostheses. Leak took over the remaining designs and manufacturing of the prostheses.

Over the last eight years, Brian received 10 prostheses. In the last year, it became apparent the prosthesis was becoming cumbersome for Brian and it was removed.

His care worker still cut up his food for him but his overall body condition was worsening in spite of regular intervention by a veterinarian.

Brian was an older bird, but the decision to humanely destroy him was agonizing for Campbell. "It was a very sad day for me but I know we made the right decision," he said. "We always want the quality of life to come first."

Work done with Brian was groundbreaking for rescuers. Leak was asked to help eagles in Oregon and Alaska. San Diego Zoo asked for advice to make a prosthesis for a toucan.
