Boy, I would love to know just where in it's flight that was. I think in mid flight, legs and feet are back and flat against the underside of the body. And when coming in to land on branch or getting ready to catch a fish, legs are down and talons are open. In this shot, legs are down but a great shot of the talons curled in!! Great photo!!!

The Northern Harrier I want to photograph has been avoiding me since I started taking a camera on my walk but I snuck up on this nice Redtail this afternoon. He's looking at me like I might be his next meal! |

Oh drat, ER! You would post one of Mike Inman's superb photos right in front of my amateur hawk shot. It suffers in comparison.... You're right, Linda - I haven't seen Karen around. Maybe I'll shoot her an email. |

George, is that expressway what we used to call the West River Drive?? I used the East River Drive so often I could have driven with my eyes closed. It was very beautiful! I remember one spot in particular; you could pull over to the right and there was a pipe coming out of the rock where cold, underground, spring water flowed. No matter how hot the weather, you could always fill up your bottles with delicious, cold water. Also, talking about this always reminds me of the John Travalta movie called "Blowout". One of my all time favorites!!! |

One of the peacocks has decided to roost on top of my house tonight...and now that they have their long tails back, they also have their peacock scream... so don't know how I will sleep tonight... they haven't been on my roof in ages...they usually are up in the pine trees away from my house... will keep you posted... |

no west river drive is now known as Martin Luther king drive i think and the east river drive is now known as Kelly Drive named for olympic rowing medalist and brother of Grace Kelly the actress and wife of Prince Reinier . The schuylkill is cut into the rocks above the river as you head out towards valley forge and the connection to the pa turnpike at king of prussia I am not sure of that spring or even if it exists now. There is a bottled water company with a brand wisahicken spring. The only natural spring that i knew of that i could get spring water cold even on the hottest days of the summer was a short trip from where the old lima quarry stood which is now where the granite run mall is just south of media in delaware county. But due to the use of pesticides and other crap by the snotty nosed neuveaux riche along and near the geist resevior off of providence road, Pa route 252, between media and newtown square the spring was closed off due to contaiminants. In my more foolish youth we would bring a bucket and sit a six pack of beer in it with the water pouring in to chill the beer off after getting it from one shady source or another :x I remember that film and one of the extras who played the newscaster in that film actually was a newscaster on philly tv at that time TV6 formerly aka WFIL now WPVI anchorman Dave Roberts. Of course the voice of NFL films you know very well the late great John Facenda who also did a voice over in an episode of the the Show Gilligan's island who was a legend to this day from WCAU when it was teh CBS affiliate, the other national news person who some may recall was the late jessica savitch who ended up driving into some canal in bucks county The current former philly persons on network news would be Andrea Mitchell who si the wife of former FED chairman Alan greenspan. One other who i think still does work for Entertainment tonight was Jerry Penacoli who was an anchor for KWY TV3. His departure was amidst a scandalous rumor alledging anmial abuse involving a gerbil. I have heard stories that this is true but given the nature of the rumors i suspect them to be false as similar allegations have been made against others in other cities. |
