One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside all people.
He said, ‘My son, the battle is between two ‘wolves’ inside us all.
One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.
The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.’
The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: ‘Which wolf wins?
The old Cherokee simply replied, ‘The one you feed.’

Oh, Jill. I love this. Thanks so much for posting it!

There is nothing sadder than watching a good wolf go hungry.

Elaine/Ruth the ? you addressed to George about the Gorilla at the Washing Zoo might be true.

Hi Marie. :}^ No, George and I were talking about the Philadelphia zoo. That is one handsome Momma you posted. Thanks.

I think several months ago we did lose one gorilla but if memory serves me they managed to get another one so that its partner would not be heartbroken.

I have been looking on local philly tv sites for footage of the zoo birthday party in hope that they have footage of the University of Pennsylvania Band playing the Star Spangled Banner in front of the eagle enclosure in hopes of being able to share the eagle comming out and taking a bow when the band finished. No such luck so far but perhaps tomorrow morning after the sunday morning local news shows they may have footage of this on their sites.

Pardon my jumping in after supposedly retiring for the night but i guess i am somnambulating or something. or thinking of eagles in my sleep? rofl :Zz:

Mini Cruzer gathering today!
Posted Image

I love those classic antique gasoline pumps in teh background of this shot!! I have a friend who owns a Sunoco station who has alot of the old style pumps includign the early ones where the gasoline was pumped up into a glass cylinder at the top and then poured into the car.

Those clear glass pumps were what made gasoline companies add a dye pellet to teh gasoline when it was delivered to the stations. Even into the early 60s when the truck came they would drop a dye pellet into the undeground tank.

Sunoco or i think they were also DX in the west used a blue coloring and sunoco gas was called blue pee. I think Atlantic/richfield was red.

In the old days with the glass cylinder there were suspicious motorists who thought water was added or crooked station owners who did add it to the gasoline and thus pay for less than they actually got from the pump.

just back from long day out and about
sorry to hear about Aline

ER how did you get that photo of my office! :<::

we strolled around SD a bit in the AM - had a wonderful lunch at a local brewery - well Phil Jr did anyway! then hoofed it back to Padre's home for a 2 hour insider tour of the stadium - awesome! well worth it even if you're not a Padre fan -

then over to see Hotel Coronado (sp?) - somehow we ended up in Old SD so did a little shopping and had dinner there and now back here to rest up a bit (yawn)

what great fun - wanted to go to Chula Vista - should have done it first thing in the AM cause it just never seemed to fit into the scheme of things as the day progressed - oh well - next trip!

(and the Marines where having a big fancy dinner at HC - WOW - they looked hot! :<:: )

maybe we can post a photo or 2 before hitting the hay .... we'll see

I went out again to look for some red-tails and to practice again with the camera. I know the person behind the camera was an improved factor this time, although it was counterbalanced a bit by poorer lighting conditions - it was rather overcast and dull today:

yes your shots did improve!! :)^ Eventually, things will just happen to click and you will find what works best for you.

Panning is not that easy to do when shooting for example race cars on a track as you have to sort of be in synch with the motion of the car with the right shutter speed etc

perhaps focusing manually if your birds are not literally up close and in your proximity would work. IF you know the approximate distance they are away from you or where you intend to have them in the frame of your viewfinder you can use the depth of field of whatever the apeture may be to manually focus to that range.

Alas with birds, you can not use your depth of field preview button to stop down the lens at whatever you have it set for to see the area in frame and in focus.

With all SLR's you are viewing thru the lens wide open and dont see the depth of field youre getting when shooting stopped down . you can test this feature out with the fence post example i have used in the past focus on one post at a mid range distance then just change the apeture and hit the preview button and see how the areas in focus change. this is a good learning tool

of course an object at 1000yards away will be in focus no matte what f stop you use as youd be focusing at infinity
