Whooper Update; The juveniles from the 2008 migration remain at their winter sites at Chassahowitzka and St. Marks. Any day now, when the conditions are right (and the team does not know exactly what combination of conditions that will be) the Class of 2008 will begin their northward migration on their own. Several of the adult whoopers from previous years are already back in their territories in Wisconsin. The early birds get the best nest areas!

The juveniles are starting to look more like adults, getting their red crowns on the top of their heads, their black moustache feathers, and their adult voices.

Cheryl:hard to believe it's time for them to go north...seems like they just GOT there in the south!! Are they able to track them on their northern trek?

Just received sad news ... via Lori and the Maine Forum ... that one of our long -time members Aline ... a fellow Canadian from Québec City ... passed away on March 12th.

Aline was such a sweet person ... she didn't post a lot here on Chat ... but she often helped out on Nest Watch, posting her captures, and sometimes videos, especially when the chicks hatched on the nests.

She also participated right at the start when the A to Z Forum Members' Biographies were created ... and is the first member listed .. after A-49/Cruz in the A to D section.

Wow. I remember Aline from the very first year. Wasn't she one of the first people who posted screen captures? I'm so sorry to hear of her passing. Now she can soar with the eagles she used to only watch.
