The Rachel Carson falcons are one of the two nest excursions to be made by me this season since Catalina and SC are out of my area of travel. The Harrisburg Pa Falcons normally fledge around june 6th and there are volunteers to help extract them from dangerous places if they need help. Depending on how things go here, that might be a worthy trip to see the eggcitment. In the meantime, i am eggerly eggstatic to be going to shoot eagles nesting only 16 miles away from home here next saturday. The only bad thing is the long range forecast shows that it is supposed to be overcast and not sunny that day. lucky for me no need for since rain isnt in the forcast for saturday. (yet that is) Going to be relatively warm too a balmy 57 degrees the accuweather.com site said

yes an extra 100mm of focal length. Since I do not see a DX in the alphabet soup of the 70-300mm lens I think that this is for the full frame size of 35mm format of 24x36mm instead of the DX lenses which are for the digital format bodies such as the d40,60,80,90 etc. Therefore with it mounted on teh digital slr body and the crop factor you have the same result that a 450mm lens would have on a normal format film body nikon such as the F6 or F100 This could be a big difference if your 55-200mm is an AFd or G DX lens because you would have greater magnification at the longer focal length of 300mm I know i have mentioned this before but for the 35mm format a 200mm lens is roughly 4x magnfication and the 300 would be 6x You may find this also of use. when you see the nikon lens AF G that indicates that the lens itself has no apeture ring to turn to select your F stop. With cameras such as the D80 or 90 apeture is selected using the wheels on the front upper corner of the body on the right or the one to the right in the rear of the camera at its top. The AFD lens has the apture ring that we turn to select f2,2.8, 3.5,4,5.6,8,11,16 or 22. Having learned with an all mechanical and all manual camera, I still have a hard time getting used to a lens without an Apeture ring. Old habbits are hard to break i suppose and i am still gettting used to my 18-55 AF G VR DX lens. The one thing i have avoided much to my surprise was having not mounted it onto my Nikon F100 film body camera. As this is a DX lens, i would have vignetting around the image as it would be smaller than the 24x36mm frame size of a 35mm film negative. |

yes that is a typical manufacturer tool to show what you get shooting a subject with different lenses. also to show the angle of view covered by each lens. On that canon site you will see the 15mm lens has an angle/field of view of 180 degrees meaning the lens will capture everything in front of it. As the focal length increases the narrower angle of view captured to fill the frame and the viewfinder. using this 180 degree field of view for the wide angle 15mm showing all in front of the lens one can sort of see that as the length of the lens increases a smaller and smaller segment of the original 180 degrees in front of the lens is covered to fill the viewfinder/frame. The shots on that canon usa page were taken from the same spot and as the focal length increases a smaller slice of that 180 degree arc in front of the lens is seen by the lens to fill the viewfinder with. |

Penny, yes, they always have breathtaking displays at RG... but this Spring Open House beats them all....having worked in a gift shop and making displays, I really appreciate the artistic touches... $$$ no object at this place and they have Christmas ornaments year round.. Christopher Radko for instance... If I am ever down in Orange County for any reason, I will go out of my way to get there...Its rather a large place so plan to spend some time there...I bought some bedding plants and another Hoya plant with thin, sharp leaves... can't wait to see what the blooms are like... |
