Penny, thanks for posting those awesome pictures of the Norfolk feeding. I was busy in the kitchen and missed it again. And Carole thanks for posting the Eagleland updates each day. Here's what the biologist at Norfolk said about the third egg. Tuesday, March 24, 2009 “Still watching and waiting” We are still closely watching the nest for any sign that the third egg has hatched. With the depth of the nest bowl and the very attentive adults it can be difficult to get a clear view. The initial pip was noted on Sunday March 21st. Hatching can be an exhausting ordeal for a young chick and can be a somewhat prolonged process. Both adults continue to incubate the egg as they brood the two chicks that have hatched. Prior to beginning to hatch the young bird absorbed all of the remaining yolk. The yolk is fat-rich and provides the chick with much needed energy. The digestion of this fat also provides a source of metabolic water (water created as a by-product of the break-down of fat). While the length of time we've been waiting may be causing concern it is too soon to draw any conclusions. We will continue to watch and update the blog with any developments posted by VDGIF Wildlife Biologist at 3:58 PM |

I cleaned up lots of these at Wolong! And, surprisingly, they don't smell. Very green and fibrous if the pandas have eaten bamboo. Kind of like BIG stuffed grape leaves. They're more yellow if they've eaten leaf eater biscuits. Pile of Panda Poop at Wolong |

Wow what lots of fabulous stuff today. Got home from the dr and needed to do a few things. Dr confirmed my suspicions of pinched nerve in my arm and leg from this fall. I may be rethinking my idea of sueing these people. I am really sick and tired of being here as well as getting hurt. Dr tried to peddle drugs and I just said I'd rather be using my PT and get accupuncture. If I can get that done. PP I wonder what this week has done to you that you can't wait for the end of it. Soon taxes will be done and you can work on the extentions...huh? Hula birdie you had better be better and get out of that huge pink building. I know how much you hate it there. Wonderful pic's today etc. Squish . Never fails to put smile on my face.

I have been watching the Hornby cam today and I am reminded now how vocal this pair is - they are more vocal than any other pair I think. I very much hope that we will have the opportunity this year to see some eaglets on this close up cam that we never were able to get the past couple of seasons. |
