Dear Steffani, Well, maybe that's the reason Pimu has never warmed to Hyde/Na Pe'Eech/Heidi! She didn't like the idea of competition. You know, some females are just jealous to the bone. What a shock! A friend of mine has a female parrot and every spring, the bird lays an unfertilized egg, sits on it for a couple of days and seems as happy as can be. I can't wait to find out what name the Tongva will give "our girl. She will certainly be the most-named bird of the bunch! Gary's pictures are beautiful. Thanks for sharing them with us. Terriffic update. Can't wait to see how TH does with their first-ever hatch! Keep up the good work!! Lauri |

What a great report! I don't know about eagles, but cockatoos/cockatiels will lay unfertilized eggs for their "special" people. Alger's eggs used to drop (from her perch) shortly after lights went out. I'd hear a clunk and sure enough, would find a warm egg on the bottom of her cage. They didn't always break. Now I keep a toy in the spot where I'd put her eggs. I can't cuddle her too much---cockatoos start panting and sort of quacking any time of year when they bond to their human & are in close contact with them. So...I wonder if Heidi has bonded....to you? I guess she'll need extra calcium now? Wonderful photos by Gary. Thanks for the eagle news, Steff. |

Jeanette - now we know the secret - what a surprise - HYDE/PEE'ECH IS A GIRL and a beautiful one at that - great job with the pics Gary - Steffani can pack into one day what would take others a week - we had our tour with her - she spent 5 hours taking us everywhere - the only think she would let us do was take her to dinner - what a sweetheart she is and so much knowledge she loves to share - thanks for all your hard work Steffani - we really appreciate you and I know Pete does as well - you are invaluable. I bet Pimu knew the secret all along too - glad Heidi was able to let the rest of the world know. |

Ok, call me blonde (which I am LOL!) but I thought the sex of an eagle was determined with a blood test. Why is it that you assumed "Heidi" was a male? Was she not tested? But great update! And great pics from Gary! Way to go, Gary! Thanks so much, Steffani! |
