Peetie - I have a question for you or any other orchid grower. When they throw away the orchid plants at work, I take them home, cut the spike back right below the first flower bloom and a new spike will grow with new orchids on it. The last one I took home was very healthy, I cut it like I always do and two little leaves are growing instead of a spike! And it's growing a new spike under the leaves that looks like it will be flowers..... I've never seen anything this and was wondering if this happens from time to time....

George nice video of Norfolk nest feeding --- the littlest one, last to hatch, is going to have a tough time of it for awhile--being the "runt" in bird nests of any kind is a rough go. We will all be pulling for s/he.

I am not sure but you may find that the Q&A inquiry form for pennsylvaniahorticulturalsociety.org site may be able to provide you with an answer. They are americas oldest horticultural society and sponsor the Philadelphia Flower show each march

Close up of the beautiful table arrangements.

Here are a few from the shindig we attended last night...quite the soiree with a guestimate of about 400 - 500 people, most of whom were dressed in basic black rofl . I would have been one of the exceptions along with the amazing interior designer Barbara Lockhart who received a Lifetime Achievement Award for her work over the last many decades. :><: :><: :><: She wore a very bright orange ensemble. Unfortunately, we only took the small camera and it was so dark in the theater I won't bother posting any of those except for the movie screen at the beginning.

I now understand how tedious these affairs can be despite the food and free IP !!!! We also had our pics taken in front of the backdrop, so I quess we'll be on the IDA website
We did not attend the 'after party', opting instead to go to 'The Petit Four' on Sunset Blvd for some 'light' late night repast...Dominic had steak :o and it was after 10:00 PM when we arrived there! With a drive through Coldwater Canyon on the way back to Pasadena, it was a lovely way to end the evening :D[/i]

Okay, interesting day. Rained so hard, could not see the swing set in our back yard. DD lives about 1-1/2 miles from me. Two tornadoes have touched down all around us. 1 house destroyed, lots of shingles off, etc. Some electricity outages, big Semi blown off I-95 (exit is 3 miles from my house), trees down, twisted, etc. Katie's mom and dad (DS #2) are in Mississippi for a long weekend. Their house is near us, in a line between 2 touch downs. Son called and asked us to drive by their house to check for damage. Hopefully there is none. We're only under a watch now ---- it's moving NE now.
Stopped raining here but TV is still all about it. It is actually 2 storms, side by side, with 2 twisters and they just keep bouncing along. Have not lost any intensity but they are past us now! :X:

George, I think you mean 1998 if they are ten years old?

Elaine Ruth, I'm glad that you and your family are safe. Hope DS and DD's houses are OK with no major damage.

Penny, you look gorgeous in your outfit, very spiffy. The table arrangements were unusual with the shades of green plus the orchids.

Petra, here is the link to the "Meet the Adult Pairs" thread with all the information about the ages of the eagles we are most familiar with, where they came from, and photos as well. George, I think you meant to say 1998, not 2008 (sorry).

Thanks George - I'll check that site out. I've looked at ask.com but haven't found an answer.

Sharon, :}^ I had one of the white ones with the glossy leaves. It would put out a root. But if I directed it toward the soil, it shriveled. I let them alone, and they just grow longer. Maybe, at a point, they would go into the ground, if growing naturally. Good for you rescueing the throw-aways! They needed a caring owner.

Hugs for your puppy. <3
