Eaglepedia Revisited April 6, 2007 The chicks huddle together in the nest "cup" and are fun to watch as their huge heads and long legs wiggle about, attached to a pudgy little body which "squats" in the nest! The eggs are laid with a couple days between and will hatch in that order with the older/first hatched having a clear advantage to the food delivered and growth head start. The older chick will most likely be physically dominant over younger siblings. "The Bald Eagle" John M. Gerrard and Gary R. Bortolotti ![]() AND April 9, 2007 Early eaglet life consists of eating, sleeping and fighting! Their wobbly head rises up to meet the parents bill for snippets of food which they swallow whole. Sometimes one parent will pass food to the other to help in feeding the chicks. The chicks are usually fed about every two hours but not all will receive food or equal amounts of food each meal. Many times the older chick is fed first and fed the most and in between, he may peck the younger sibling into submission with head bowed low in the nest. As long as the younger bird holds its head down, it will not be fed. Good morning all. I so enjoyed seeing and hearing all about the Cruzer gatherings. Thanks to all for the rundown and photos! (Almost like being there)Got the car repaired yesterday. (I had pulled a muscle or something in my back the other day... and had to use the old car until repair was made.) My back did not like that low, hard to get into car. Hope today is a slooooooow day. Have been lurking a lot lately. But wanted to say..... ---------------------------------------

Morning to all. Had an exciting time at the Racetrack last night. Several minor fender benders. Lot's of noise, lots of smoke. Up late this morning. Off to the Hip-Hop competition this afternoon. Spent most of the day yesterday on the TH sight. Babies are sooooo thrilling to watch. My family just doesn't get it. Ok by me, just leave me to my eagleaddictness. Put DH and I down for a possible for Boccali's, will give heads up for sure later. Have a great day!!!! Eagleaddict

Good morning to everyone! Carole, that is such a beautiful photo of the Norfolk mom and her chicks. Hope we can get some good photos of PH eventually , since that is our clearest cam.Petra, that fish smackdown at TH was kind-of scary, poor babies. It certainly was a huge fish. I wonder what kind it was! We had sunshine and warmth yesterday. DH and I both did some pre-garden season clean-up. I was trimming some trees and DH raked the lawn since it was damaged by all the snow. The dog sat in the sunshine and watched us. It was so nice to get outside. Today it is . Later I think we are going to the Lindor outlet store to look at Easter candy.

Robin and Cheryl - Thank you. I wish I could take credit for that photo but I snagged it from the NBG thread on the Maine forum. They have some very talented photographers visiting Norfolk as you can tell from the photos Penny posts. |
