From Gary's description, I thought he was capturing shots of 'George'(no offense, Leica - I didn't name him!), the Great Blue Heron that has staked out the dock right in front of our office as HIS territory.... this guy is a lovely specimen of the California Brown Pelican... in breeding plumage, no less ...another one that was severely threatened by DDT contamination of their principal 'food groups' ... anchovies... resulting in the same fate experienced by the eagles - eggshells too thin to withstand the weight of a brooding parent. It is sooo good to see them thriving once more!

I've taken several pix of mom lately, but nothing I would dare post. She's just not looked a happy camper. So I was tickled to get that yesterday.
She has a lot of bruising here and there and has areas with petechia all over her legs and some on her arms and face too, but she really seems to be doing okay for now.

I should take back half of that I'm doing fine, I think I'm catching a cold.

In which case, I can't go visit mom. I got her 2 boxes of thin mint GS cookies today too. :Yum:

Peetie - here's some shots of the orchid spike growing leaves instead of flowers!
Posted Image

I thought the one underneath was going to be a flower spike but it's going to be another leaf....

and then there are 3 tails exploring!

George - I don't know if you can see this. It was in my mom's jewelry box. I found out the one on the right is a medallion from the 101st Army Engineer's Division. Any idea what the other one is? I haven't really gone "surfing" but you are such a pro that I thought I might ask :D

I just went down to check my tomato plants and they have grown inches since we planted them on the 21st... we have a 'tomato war' going on in the family.. who can grow the biggest and best.... I have 8 plants 2 the same the rest different.. My DS went to a Tomato Mania Nursery this past week and bought over $200 worth of tomato plants.. for his Italian Client in Beverly Hills....most of his are heirloom and pricy... a couple of mine are common but 5 are unusual but suppose to be great.. you will be the first to know (and see) the results... :hair: :v8v: :**: :*:

As soon as you have fruit on those fabulous plants, we'd like pictures please. :clk:

Summer, did I hear that you cancelled Yolanda's??? Hope that is a mistake.... When you talked with George about getting into your jammies and watching TV I felt the same way... it really got cold here this afternoon and I have been freezing but not cold enough to turn heater on... maybe just another fire in the fireplace will do the trick... I have tons of firewood thanks to my lumberjack family and the new log-spliter that my DH and DS bought each other for their birthdays....

No, that's a nasty rumor. rofl Since it's in my neighborhood, there's not much reason I couldn't make it. Especially a nice Strawberry Margarita, and lots of chips! I'll be there 100%! :)^

The meat market in Juba, Sudan. Right out in the open & the flies love it (I bet I bought meat twice in two years, if that)! You have to pressure cook your meat to kill anything bad on it! Also, one of the shops where you can buy flour (you poison the weavels with carbon disulfide), etc.

I love your exotic pictures, Jill. This is an enormous project you have undertaken and I am so glad you are sharing them with us!

I stopped in tonight just to look at pictures and have been amply rewarded! Thank you all for the eagles, ducks, herons, pandas, hummers, pelicans - all the wonderful wildlife we are privileged to see thanks to Cruzers who get out and share with the rest of us!

:Zz: G'night and rest well...
