momkat you can do 2 things.....leave it or cut it.....both can...

i think cut it right above the new leaf.....

and than wait and see what's happen....

let me know okay ?

Thanks Peetie! - and I just got an answer from George's nursery experts in Pennsylvania - they said:

From your description, I believe you have a Phalaenopsis. The 'two leaves' growing from the flower spike is a keiki (baby plant), let it grow on the spike until it have at least two well developed roots at which time you can remove the keiki and pot it. It is not uncommon for some Phalaenopsis to develop keikis and flower spike. Continue to watch the plant and I believe you well get more flowers as well as an additional plant.

I learn something new everyday :D

Momkat,

I've had two of my orchids do this - produce a new plant. I let mine grow two leaves and two roots, then cut it off and pot it. One made it, one did not. Try it, and good luck. The mother plant will not be harmed, and who knows - you may have another orchid plant.

(First time "quoting", I hope it works.)

Hi Bette!!! Yes, the "quote" worked - and thank you for the information! This is the first time I've had a pant do this! I'm so eggcited! And I'm really eggcited about the PH :^: :^:

Hey everyone, hoping you're all having a great day!

I got a lot of new stuff done in commercial design the past few days, so mroe pics coming real soon!

Glad to see the eagles are doing well And that I didn't miss any more hatchings! Me and Tweety (my bird) are watching the cams right now. She keeps staring at the eagles, liek she doesn't know what to think! :P She doesn't like PH, because of the sounds of the birds calling.

As long as you wont have to fear the long arm of B-)) comming from the front seat and yelling, "Do i have to turn this truck around??", or "one more and you will all be walking!" rofl

Or " B-)) , i have to go potty!" and "well didnt you do that before we left???" rofl rofl
