CONGRADULATIONS! I know you have been worried that they may not clear his release to your custody given his intestinal problem but as it was written someplace....."all good things come to those who wait!" Which means 10 and 26 could possible be blessed with the first today too!I will be MIA this morning as i have to do the doctor dash to see my endocrinologist/diabetologist for about 30minutes and then waste an hour or so waiting at the lab for two tubes of blood to be siphoned off me at the arm. TTFN hope you can get your new fluffball kitty a nice catnip mouse to play with! (when you arent playing with him that is )

Deb - This lobby computer won't let me look at your slide show, will have to wait until the weekend. Looking forward to it. Weather is still awful, lots of rain and possible hail as we head north. We will just have to take it easy and if it gets worse, we will just stop in another town for the night and continue on again tomorrow. Will try to check in tonight.

Eaglepedia Revisited January 9, 2007 On hot sunny days (and in the rain) parents will stand over the babie to shade and protect them. The eaglet is fuzzy with some bald spots and will easily sunburn or get overheated. They are not yet able to thermoregulate their body temperature. The parent however, must be careful to not overheat as well! They do not sweat - their down feathers would absorb the water and could get saturated. The eagles will pant to cool down and spread their feathers (ruffling them a bit) to expose bare skin and release the heat. Here’s how: When the bird’s skin is relaxed, the feathers cover the skin entirely. However, each feather is attached to its own muscle, and the bird can control the feather to expose skin to air. This gets rid of the heat. On a baby bird you can see the feather tracts really easily. This works because feathers don't grow out of every square inch of the body. Feathers grow on “feather tracts” and there's bare skin between the tracts. So, by moving the feathers and exposing a bald area, heat can escape. Anybody who's had goose bumps has seen how muscles control the tiny hairs on our skin. For humans, it’s an involuntary response to temperature. But birds have control of these muscles. The feathers on the adult's back won't be opened to avoid sunburn! Their skin is very thin because the feathers do the jobs that skin does (protect from cold, sun, water). Thicker skin would add weight to an eagle - remember, he needs to be light to fly! http://www.learner.org/jnorth/tm/eagle/Eag...son0430033.html ![]() http://www.inhf.org/eaglediaries05-apr.html ![]() (Harpo 2008) Visit Eaglepedia DISCLAIMER: Information here has been gathered in good faith from the internet and cannot be guaranteed to be totally accurate. |

Peetie, I remember what it was like waiting just a few days for my cat at the vets - I can't imagine how excited you are. Lucky, lucky cat to have to you as his Mom!!! Deb, what kind of camera did you and ES use, and what was the strength of lens? Beautiful pictures - great colour! I hope mine will be nearly as good when I have my tour.Pat |

Deb, I really enjoyed watching the slideshow of your trip to Catalina this morning. I think you saved the best for last. Then I went over to IWS updates to check out Steffani's Catalina update posted yesterday. Wow! More great pictures and video of eagles on Catalina. Second video made we wish I could go kayaking along the Rattlesnake territory, too. Lots of fishing action there. Great update with the promise of more chicks to hatch this week! Let's go PH, all eyes are watching. Peetie, great news about your kittie. Have a great day and for those traveling be safe! |
