nifty hawk shot tack sharp even on the 72dpi res monitor of the computer!  a genuine "pudding shot". not the lame jello varieties but this one's "MY-T-FINE" :)^  :clk:  :clk:

edited----is that accipiter a Gosshawk by chance??

Based on the apparent large size my first thought is a goshawk. However I'm going to sit down with my field guide to see if the plumage is also consistent with a gos or not. I can't imagine it could be a sharp-shinned - too big - if I'm wrong and it's a Coopers it's the Shaq of Coopers hawks I think.

This is the full resolution version:

Northern Goshawk?

One thing I was wondering about just nitpicking the fine details is that the sunlight side seems just a touch overexposed around the head, while the shaded side is just a bit dark. Is it possible to adjust the brightness in PS for just a part of an image separately? I don't know how to do that or whether there is a way to do it.

Here are a couple of other shots:

This is a pic of a goshawk that I found. Doesn't look anything like the one above.

I had a big thrill this afternoon.....- this guy (or perhaps more likely girl) is a huge accipiter - she was so big I mistook her momentarily for a large buteo.

Ian, I darkened your hawk a little..always like tweeking photos, mine or others.... but I actually liked the original... did not think it had too much light...

A little darker

I usually find that the original is the best.. untouched... but we can't help ourselves sometimes...
