Sandie, I am so sorry to have to say that I was one of the watchers who saw K-10 move what most certainly (pending a naturalist's verification) the body of the little chick hatched on Friday. It was, unfortunately, pretty clear to see what it was. Now K-10 has hunkered down and is incubating the second egg - which we are all watching and praying will hatch a healthy chick. We were all worried that something was not right with this first chick and now, sadly, it seems our instincts and fears were correct.

Now I feel a little guilty celebrating yesterday. Poor little creature. k10 seems lonely and waiting for K26 to join him. How could he not grieve this little creatures loss. Maybe not the same way we do. But how could they not know? |

They know Sandie, we've seen K26 heartbreak when her chicks were gone last year. Thankfully, they were rescued. And we still have sweet Spirit. Remember, K26's sad cry when her egg failed a few years ago, as she was consuming it. My heart just cried out loud as it is now. |

I am overwhelmed with sadness. In my mind I know that Mother Nature does not sugar coat disappointments. By watching these beautiful birds you are accepting that there may be hardships and sadness along with joy and wonderment. But when it happens, it hurts so bad. I pray that the second egg hatches soon and K10 and K26 are able to raise their offspring. I know that they have feelings and grief but may not dwell on it too long as there is work to be done. Hugs for all who are feeling down. Cathie |

Does anyone know why the time when I put a note in is different from the time on my clock? Deanna |
