The likely causes depend on the age of the chick and how many chicks are present. Young chicks die of infections, sibling rivalry, starvation, accidents, etc. If they are small, the adults will probably just see them as a food item. Of course, older eaglets can die of all the same things as younger chicks and I don't know what the adults would do with the carcass because I've not seen an older chick dead in a nest. Dr Sharpe wrote this and by the contents I am sure he thinks that eagles probably do NOt have the feelings of grief as we do. |

In & Out the king of burgers. One of the main things I miss about Southern California.

Just home from taking Elaine to Ventura.. She has to pack for her trip to the Island tomorrow...our day was a long one... starting with breakfast in Malibu with Ozzie and Kris... and Ozzie's Aunt and friends... lovely people... a drive through Santa Monica to see some of the old California homes... then into Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive... Beverly Hills Hotel, Sunset Blvd... Greystone Mansion which was mostly closed for filming.... a pilot show that Elaine might remember the name... then down Sunset, past UCLA, onto PCH and a loop up to see Malibu Hawks... neighbor said it was the 5th or 6th year for the nest but one year the Great Horned Owl took it over.. 3 owls fledged... then a quick stop at Elaine's hotel, a stop at my house to introduce Elaine to the critters.. cats, peacocks, chickens, husband, etc....then off to Lake Casitas where my kids were camping... Elaine charmed the pants off those two little girls... had them laughing their heads off... then off for Ojai tour... getting late and stopped at Boccali's for Italian Fix and then back to Ventura to take Elaine to her hotel.... now I'm here, finally getting to mourn with the rest of you at our horrible news today...was glad to have had my mind somewhere else today... such a sad day
I think Elaine had a good day....

Sounds like a good & full day for you all Linda. We had a great visit with your parents yesterday! They're such sweethearts! Such very sad news for all of us today. Sleep well all, with dreams of all the other chicks growing day by day. And hopefully the egg at PH will be hatching soon with a healthy, strong chick. |
