Thanks Linda! I have about 105 slides left to scan, don't know if any are Africa though as I'm not checking! I'm on some Calif. ones now! But, photobucket is not cooperating at the moment so I may have to try later. |

Hi Tamera - and welcome! The first egg hatched on April 3, but the chick died a couple of days later. As far as I know, they don't know why - only that it happens occasionally (fortunately not often). Dr. Sharpe thinks the second egg may have hatched today, but the nest bowl is quite deep so no one has been able to see if there really is a chick. If all goes well, there's a good chance we'll see a chick tomorrow. |

Jill, I love the big pictures. I have The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency on tv, and then I see your pictures of Africa. Serendipity. I read that you might not have a picture of a leopard. I will have to dig out my pictures of the leopard we saw on the Samburu game reserve in Kenya. Apparently leopards are not easy to come by, and it's a real score to see one. When we saw him, our game driver got so excited! The leopard was hunting and couldn't be bothered with us. We stayed very still, and he got relatively close to us as he crossed in front of us to get to a herd of gazelle. He was so incredibily majestic that he brought tears to my eyes when I saw him. Such wonderful pictures of the gathering today! You all look like you were having a fantabulous time! So glad that June was able to hook up with everyone and am so sorry that Mina didn't get the word that the venue had changed. Margie, you sure were scrambling today! Fast work! LaLa, great pictures of your escapades. Wonderful, wonderful pictures. And you are a wonderful Cruzer ambassador.

Yes Patti. I noticed them on the weekend when I had gone over to their house. But I must say they don't look that great. Perhaps it's because there aren't many of them yet. I thought of you when I saw them! |

Jill, I loved Samburu. We visited a native village while we were there. Many of them could not speak English, but the chief could, so he translated for us. They had a blessing ceremony for us to protect us -- this was in November 2002, and they were upset that America had been attacked. The chief told us the story of how after 9/11, the warriors in the village wanted to come to America to fight for us. Not knowing that there was an ocean separating the continents, and maybe not even knowing what an ocean was, they said that they would walk to America. The chief tried to explain to them that they could not go to America, that it was very far away and that there was an ocean they would have to cross. They didn't care. They said that they would pick up their sticks and they would walk to America. The elders of the village then had the blessing ceremony for us and each elder blessed us each individually. it was very moving for me. |
