PANDA REPORT Wednesday, April 8 As many of you know, we spend a lot of time training the giant pandas. We recently started working with Xi Lan on some basic behaviors. He quickly learned his name and he is now responding to the "shift" and "come" commands. Since training is still new for Xi Lan, he does not always reliably respond to the commands. Often times, the doorway is much more interesting than following his mother or listening to a keeper's voice. At this age, the reward for performing a behavior is verbal praise or the excitement of going out into the exhibits; to train the adults, we use the leafeater biscuits and pieces of fruit. Because Xi Lan is not eating solid foods yet, we have to get creative about how to reward him. Overall, Xi Lan is doing very well with training and learning quickly. Heather Baker Roberts Carnivore Keeper II ![]() Xi lan, training to be a dapper dude..............................Nature is tasty!......... |

Lala I have never seen a picture of the nest like that. They are really exposed to the flying creatures. No wonder they got so attacked. They are easy pickins!! George great shots. Just love pic's like that. Peetie how's your little black and white kitty? I have to catch up on chat Marti and everyone else thanks for being egggcited for me. I don't know what I was thinking when I said I will take this place. It just had the right "feel". Pluse it's only about 1/2 to 1 mile to Eagle Central. Bad thing about it is I won't be able to come to the picnic. I'll be moving!!

Deb, what a lovely photo and poem Thank you so much for brightening my day. Has been a sad few weeks with two burials at Arlington Cemetery. But life does go on, as the eagles remind us.

WoooooHoooo!!! We have proof positive of a chicklet in the PH nest!!! Great job LaLa!!! Sorry this is old news to you guys.......but I haven't been able to post my excitement over the good news until now. We didn't get home last night until 10:30........it took us 7 1/2 hours to get to Long Beach, and 9 1/2 hours to get home. Apparently we hit a head wind called LA traffic. Thank You Everyone for the wonderful birthday wishes.........you guys are outstanding......and you've added immensely to the joy of having met Dr. Sharpe, hearing of the confirmation of a chick in the PH nest, going on our tour, and the most outstanding birthday dinner with Jann, Dave, June, Elaine, Dr. Sharpe and Steffani. Who in the world could ask for more? Not me, that's for sure. Everything was perfect. Thank You Cruzers!!! |

Welcome Home Michele! Yes, we're looking forward to the pics! I bet Elaine had you in stiches! She could have her own late night talk show! I'll bet Peter and Steffani were in hysterics at dinner.
