Just a thought - I think we should name the PH chicks - we did get to observe them no matter the outcome and we were always hoping for their success......

I like the nicknames given to them by Cruzer nest observers:

Windy and Hope

IMHO.... <3 <3

DEB Yes. This is appropriate and needed. Windy and Hope. Thank you for your consideration and thoughtfulness of these two lovely animals.

Thanks, George, we'll have to check the camera store in Bryn Mawr out. How about some stories. :ok:

well the owner of that store and his brother who owned the chain that was bought by ritz camera had a dispute after their fathers death. they did not speak to each other for years. The one son was a big shot in the PMA ( the photo marketing association) which holds a us equivalent to Photo Kina in europe each march.

My great grandfather knew both of them and thier father. Both John, Edward and Sarkis Begosian were pillars of the community here. Edward's daughter i think now runs the Camera Shop in Bryn Mawr. This was where i bought my Nikon F100 body and afd s lens.

Alas, with todays economic climate many stores now do not stock the larger focal lengths and have to speical order them. If you look at some of the prices on the upper end canon or nikon lenses , that is alot of money tied up in inventory which could be used to stock more readily sold stock instead

Just finished reading about the second chick on PH. That's so sad, but as we all know nature is what it is. It's a tough existance sometimes.

On another note, I personally could do without all the "commentary" about what happened or might happen with the chick's body if it has indeed died. Thanks. :(

Well, i am going to call it a night. Its sad to see that 10 and 26 lost both this season. I just couldnt watch as often as i should have. Today was very difficult and i had to resort to post production work on my hockey shots.

So, i must say NYTOL as my eyeballs are now heavy like my heart

Topa Topa Hikers, the lens is a Canon 400mm F5.6 with a 1.4 extender. Nice pictures of the Seal Sanctuary. :clk:

If this is a 400mm prime lens, this must have been expensive! I have the 100mm-400mm F4.5-5.6 lens, and that set me back $1650. The prime lenses are much more expensive than that I think. What camera body?

There are a bunch of photographers who visit NBG to take pictures - did you see or meet any of them?

Yes, George I know what you mean. If you would like to shoot birds professionally you could easily spend $10,000.00 on one lens and a camera body. Goose is crying. :'( He thinks they should make cameras smaller and less expensive and they should take a perfect picture every time you shoot.

Yes, we did see several other photographers there with 600mm lenses and we did say hello. One of them guided us right to the nest. Most of them shot from the ground level and were using tripods for shooting. We opted to shoot from NATO tower with a fast shutter speed and hand held. It was a nice vantage point and we didn't want to be in the way of the professionals althougth they were all friendly. We were more intent on the eagles than being social. Goose has a Canon 40D. :clk:
