Sometimes....but mostly I go by the ground observers or Deejay who always seems to know exactly who is who. Ma has a fluffier, wider head and heavier leg feathers....in the first tree wrestling shot she really looked like Dad though. |

I am sure that you all have seen this but I think it is so cute and funny. We all need a good laugh and something to just make us feel good so thought I would post it again. And some of the newbies may not have seen it before. http://www.members.shaw.ca/grandmafaiths/cockatoo.htm |

Hi Kathie. I just went back to check and the 3rd image is from a different type of Photo account...it is also a really high resolution, so maybe that is the reason some of them won't come through the filters at work. |

Breaking NewsPhil Spector has been found guilty of the murder of Lana Clarkson 6 years ago. He was stone faced and had no expression of emotion when the verdict was read. His attorney will be appealing. A mandatory sentence is 15 years to life...sentencing is May 9th. He is now in custody along with all his various and sundry medications. |

Thanks Penny - I didn't realize the photos you post were from different photo storage accounts; that would explain it. Some I can see, some not... Keep 'em coming - they are all so gorgeous! As for the Spector - what a creepazoid. I hope they keep him locked up for the rest of his life - and take his "meds" away from him too! |

Thank you, Karen - I needed that!!! You can't watch that bird boogie too many times! You know why I'm not commenting on your pictures and slide shows, right? Can't see 'em from here. But I did ask my dad to take me over to Carlsbad to see the flower fields when I was down there this weekend. It was such a zoo that we didn't go in, but I got a look at all those gorgeous ranunculus (ranunculi?) anyway. Thanks for the wing up on that. If I'd had more time I would've given you a jingle for coffee but this was a really quick trip - maybe next time, OK? |

I was reading over the questions posted to Dr. Sharpe regarding the events that occured on the PH nest and I read a couple of times about a "Red Tide." Does anyone know what that is? Thanks in advance.Nancy |

Around here on Long Island it's an algae bloom I believe that happens off shore - it closes swimming and the shell fishing, etc. I don't know about it but from time to time it's a big issue here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_tide I'd think it would be the same reference? |

Red tide is a naturally-occurring, higher-than-normal concentration of the microscopic algae Karenia brevis (formerly Gymnodinium breve). This organism produces a toxin that affects the central nervous system of fish so that they are paralyzed and cannot breathe. As a result, red tide blooms often result in dead fish washing up on Gulf beaches. When red tide algae reproduce in dense concentrations or "blooms," they are visible as discolored patches of ocean water, often reddish in color. What causes red tide? Red tide is a natural phenomenon not caused by human beings. When temperature, salinity, and nutrients reach certain levels, a massive increase in Karenia brevis algae occurs. No one knows the exact combination of factors that causes red tide, but some experts believe high temperatures combined with a lack of wind and rainfall are usually at the root of red tide blooms. There are no known ways that humans can control it, but many scientists around the world are studying red tide at present. |

Red tide is an algae bloom or phytoplankton..."Some red tides are associated with the production of natural toxins, depletion of dissolved oxygen or other harmful impacts, and are generally described as harmful algal blooms. The most conspicuous effects of red tides are the associated wildlife mortalities among marine and coastal species of fish, birds, marine mammals and other organisms." It's almost always bad news for marine wildlife here on our coast when we have one. My recollection is that it usually occurs when the water is warmer...which certainly isn't right now...but don't quote me on that. I really am not sure about that correlation. If that doesn't tell you enough...here's more than you probably WANT to know: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_tide |
