Majestic Dreams…….. Last night, once again, I had a dream About an eagle in the blue, And just like all the other dreams, Right above my head it flew. In every dream of it I had, It landed somewhere close by, And each time, I was so excited For the beauty that caught my eye. -Stacey Smith ![]() Please join us at the IWS Eagle Forum....... http://s11.zetaboards.com/IWS_Eagle_Forum/index/ |

Peetie - that's good that you listen to your inner voice when it comes to meds or anything else. Only "you" know "you." Lesser to start is always better. , especially for someone that doesn't take a lot of meds. I'm pulling for you. |

Eaglepedia Revisited March 2, 2007 The eagle eggs are laid over a period of days and will hatch in the order that they were laid, thus a brood of 3 eaglets can differ in age by as much as a week. The first hatched will have a true advantage in being the oldest, especially since they are capable of gaining 6 oz a day in weight! The largest eaglet - usually the firstborn - invariably claims the most food. The older chick who of course is better fed than his siblings, will continue to grow at a faster rate and will continue to dominate - and often indirectly causes the death of its second and third born siblings. It may seem odd to have the situation of battling eaglets but in having the size of the brood meet the available food resources, their struggle to survive serves an important function - if food is plentiful, more than one nestling will survive, capitilizing on the area's bounty. If the food is scarce, perhaps only one eagle will survive, reducing pressure on limited resources. "Field Guide to the Bald Eagle" ![]() AND August 25, 2007 The eagles will lay their eggs several days apart, once a year. There of course is an advantage to being the first hatched over the younger siblings since there will be several days between their growth! The biggest eaglet will usually fight for the most food and may even kill its smaller, younger siblings. This is a survival strategy for the eagles—it insures that at least one chick will get a good chance at living to adulthood. Eaglets are a fluffy, light gray color when they hatch, turning darn brown just before they leave the nest at about 12 weeks of age. Their head and tail will not turn white until they mature at about 4-5 years of age. Life is rough for young eagles, and most don’t survive their first year. <a href='http://www.sandiegozoo.org/animalbytes/t-bald_eagle.html' target='_blank'>http://www.sandiegozoo.org/animalbytes/t-bald_eagle.html</a> ![]() Visit Eaglepedia DISCLAIMER: Information here has been gathered in good faith from the internet and cannot be guaranteed to be totally accurate. |
