I know ive posted about the Hawk nest camera here in Philly but our local ABC Affiliate ,the former home of dick clark and american bandstand, has on thier site a video of the Franklin Institute's Hawks hatching. You can really see how the eggs move as the hawks break their way out in this clip Franklin Instiute Hawk hatching courtesy of WPVI TV 6 edited: other interesting item to note. I know says the roll their talons up when near thier eggs. Since it is hard for us to see it on the cams here, look at their red tailed cousin as she gets over her eggs. you can see her talons rolled under so as not to damage the eggs

Jann Mina and Dave just left. At first I was really worried about them cause just as they left there were 2 fire engines 3 police cars and some kind of rescue truck screaming down the street outside but they were not going in the right direction where Jann and Dave and Mina went. So whew!!! Then I see Jann and Dave drive by my house in one piece. I was eating the salad that Mina gave me when they drove by. Has anyone seen my??????????????? I think I'll be saying that for a realllllly long time. Jann shared Dave's chocolate with me. Now that's a real friend!!! I'm going to Malibu in a couple of days....oh LALA where is that nest??? OK got to go save my friend who is in a heap (partly because of me leaving our apt complex) NOT!!! What is linksys and is it reliable? That's how I got online!!! Do I not need my ATT?? I CAN HEAR THE OCEAN!!! |

Here are some photos from my Godwit Days trip yesterday. Godwit Days is Humboldt County's migratory bird festival. It lasts for 4 days and has about 150 different events. My trip was a 10 hour trip to about eight different habitats. The goal was to record as many bird species as possible. We ended up recording 138 for the day which set a record. ![]() Shore Birds at one of our Humboldt Bay stops. ![]() The beginning of the trail at the Humboldt Wildlife Refuge. ![]() Trinidad in the fog. ![]() Trinidad after the fog lifted. |

Thanks, LaLa. That would be so awesome to see. The great blue heron is such a beautiful bird. We have seen many great blue herons, especially at Conowingo Dam but the nests are too far away to see the babies. We have some in our local area but I have never found a nest. I will keep looking though. We spotted a red-tailed hawk nest near our home today. We didn't see any chicks though. We also spotted an eagle nest not far from our home. No eagle sitting on the nest but one was perched in a tree near the nest.

Mom brooding chick/chicks 2 mi north of Maiden Rock, WI. She had just stopped feeding when we pulled up with the Harleys. She barely notices us anymore. Not sure how many babies yet. Didn't see any bobble heads. There is a new nest elsewhere that can be seen easily from the road. They are also brooding. These are the videos of one of 3 nest north of Maiden Rock. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z14m-Ic8Lyg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=21qZvKs5-4c |
