Just a quick post to let anyone interested know that we're gonna be having another trip to Hurry Curry of Tokyo in Pasadena this Saturday (the 25th) at 4pm. Roy loves curry and wants to see what all the raves were about. If you missed out last time, don't miss out this time! We have to have a number for the reservations, so please let me know in Cruzer Events/Hurry Curry if you want to join us. Hope to see you there! |

Well so much for that idea. No night night for me. Too many strange sounds. Plus a black kitty keeps coming over and investigating all the new things. Wayyyy too much stuff still out on my "patio" for my taste. I have to get that inside before the "sea air" gets to it. Plus as I am laying here I "see" everything that needs to be done. Probably crash in another few hours. I could get up and so something but that seems like too much work at this hour. Maybe I'll just play games on the computer for awhile. Hoo Hum tweiddle dum. Bernie does not seem to have any problems...... |

Good Morning. Raining on the east coast today after a beautiful weekend. Due to the weather, the eagle banding of the Norfolk triplets that was scheduled for this afternoon has been postponed to Wed., April 22 at 10:00 a.m. The NBG opens at 9:00 a.m. daily so I would guess that visitors to the garden would be able to witness this event. That would be so amazing to see live! Both Lake Casitas and Boccoli’s appear to be perfect settings for the cruzer events. West coast cruzers do an awesome job of hosting these special events. Thanks to all for posting so many wonderful photos. I am reposting the slideshow of the Susquehanna triplets in the hope that a more experienced eagle viewer will venture a guess as to how old these eaglets might be. When we visited the nest two weeks ago the chicks were not visible but we think they were to small to be seen from our vantage point or may have been sleeping for the time we were there. We think they may be four or five weeks old. Click on the link for slideshow. http://s658.photobucket.com/albums/uu304/G...mview=slideshow |

Eaglepedia Revisited February 29, 2008 In their five year development to adulthood, bald eagles go through one of the most varied plumage changes of any North American bird. During its first four weeks of life, an eaglet's fluffy white down changes to a gray wooly down. At about five weeks, brown and black feathers begin to grow. It becomes fully feathered at 10 weeks of age. In its first year, the mostly dark-colored juvenile can often be mistaken as a golden eagle. However, the bald eagle progressively changes until it reaches adult plumage at five years. Notice in the pictures how its dark eye lightens throughout its first four years of life until it becomes yellow. Also, see how its beak changes form gray-black to a vibrant yellow. It is believed that the darker, more mottled plumage of a young eagle serves as camouflage, while the white head and tail announce that it is of breeding age. http://www.swbemc.org/plummage.html ![]() A. 10 days old ------- B. 21 days old ------- C. 28 days old ![]() D. 49 days old ------- E. 96 days old ------- F. 2 years old ![]() G. 3 years old ------- H. 5 years old AND May 11, 2008 Report from the field: "You can tell from the back view of the babies, that one has more developed feathers (the back looks darker). Having more developed feathers would possibly indicate it was hatched first. It is also interesting that the smaller baby is the one with more developed feathers. Speculation is that the smaller, older baby is a male. In birds of prey, the females are generally larger than the males. Maybe that is why one baby was not able to eliminate the other during their first few weeks (as often happens). ![]() http://www.inhf.org/eaglediaries04-may.htm Visit Eaglepedia DISCLAIMER: Information here has been gathered in good faith from the internet and cannot be guaranteed to be totally accurate. |
