Deb, as I was reading through the pages things started looking up for your SIL. What a relief that she just has a concussion after several rollovers. Her car definitely protected her. I'm glad that she is alright. Sandie, hope you find your glasses! Petra, it was terrific to be able to hear you talking! Your T-shirt looks perfect on you, and the hedgie is so cute. Jill, so nice of you to do that for Petra. Laurie, sorry to read about your friends hurting your feelings. I'm having problems with my back today so I'm just up for a bit to check in and eat lunch, then back to bed. Deb and Robin, thanks so much for the translated information about the okapi. I think they are fascinating creatures. DS told me that the guide at Disney Animal Kingdom told them that the okapi was related to the giraffe. I'm going to save this information for myself and for my son. |

Sandie, I agree with iggle - a new home is a grand birthday present to give yourself - especially one by the beach!! Happy, happy birthday! You're on the cusp of Aries and Taurus - best features of both, I'm sure Deb, I'm so glad to hear your SIL's going to be alright. It sure reminds us how fragile life is, and indomitable at the same time, doesn't it? Pat |

Yep, me too... Happy Birthday Sandie! Wishing you peace and joy in the coming year. Oh, and many healthy to watch.Petra, you speak English like an American, no accent. At least that's how you sounded to me in the thirteen seconds I heard you! Great t-shirt BTW. Vera, LaLa and I were at the LA Farmer's Market on Fairfax with the Cumbrians. We could have spent the whole day there and still not have seen everything. So far I've had an three mile walk today, followed by breakfast with friends, then a few errands, car wash, Trader Joe's. Finally home and catching up. Feel like I need a nap before I start seeing clients. Cheryl, hope your back is better soon. I'm send healing thoughts your way, and for Deb's SIL too. Have a great day everyone. I'll check in tonight when this day winds down.

Cedar Waxwing enjoying breakfast at NBG...![]() Image by Duane Noblick Even the eagle paparazzi have their own set of problems trying to get the best 's."Well, I didn't want to move as they were on a feeding frenzy. Between me moving, people walking around, people walking up to me asking me what the heck I'm doing and in the process of scaring them away  and someone asking me what type of camera I use ...... I swear I'm going to start wearing one of those signs that you hang over yourself stating what I'm doing so people can read it from a distance. Or just carry some caution tape and stakes and rope myself off."

Canada geese have claimed squatters' rights to this eagle's nest at Beaver Dam Lake near Tunica, Miss.![]() Click pic for link to complete story Susan Winston/Special to The Commercial Appeal Canada geese put one over on American Eagle By Bryan Brasher (Contact), Memphis Commercial Appeal Sunday, April 19, 2009 BEAVER DAM, Miss. -- With mating season in full swing for Canada geese, people have no doubt seen the tall, majestic-looking birds nesting on the ground all over the Mid-South. But Mike Boyd can show you something you probably haven't seen when it comes to geese. Canada geese have claimed squatters' rights to this eagle's nest at Beaver Dam Lake near Tunica, Miss. On the edge of his property at historic Beaver Dam Lake, just outside of Tunica, Boyd can point to a pair of Canada geese sitting in an eagle's nest more than 80 feet off the ground. The geese didn't wait for the eagles to leave and then claim an abandoned nest. They actually fought off the eagles and have forcefully occupied their home for two weeks despite their constant protests. "I thought a bald eagle would just absolutely throttle a Canada goose," Boyd said. "But that eagle has come back over and over again trying to reclaim its nest, and the geese won't give it up." My big concern here, besides the obvious, is how on earth are the goslings going to get down out of that nest when the time comes?... |

The geese fought the eagles and won?!?!?! Amazing! Geese fly - why would the goslings have a problem getting down from the nest once they fledge? I like the different stories you've posted today, Penny. The cedar waxwing is beautiful and it's nice to know that Mr. Noblick also photographs the "lesser" birds! |
