No, actually it wouldn't...and then we would have to wait for so long to get everything...plus customs hassles. We are shipping all the books/mags and sundry other items though I hope Ross has some cheaper cases when we get there BBL

Hi Julie - Love your cool kitty avatar! Member of the family? You guys must've been exhausted by the time you got home Saturday night but I'm sure glad you came to Ojai & we got to meet finally. I wish we'd had more time to talk - just so many people at these things! I collect things on my travels too Penny and I've bought extra bags on many trips. You have been down here so long I'm surprised you don't have to buy a trunk! When do you go back? I don't think I'm going to get to see you again before you leave since I can't make any of this week's events...

Vera - there is a pie shop there in the Farmers Market that uses little or no sugar in their pies and boy, are they yummy!!! Kathie - the kitty is not one of the family. I would probably get the death look if i tried to put goggles on any of them  We were tired, but we had so much fun on Sat that it didn't matter!! We'll be back up in your area - Brad wants to go fishing there!!!

Laurie, friends should be calling you, not emailing... you are right about waiting.. like counting to 10... one of my own personal flaws... jumping to fast....can't imagine anyone upsetting you on purpose..

I had Summer today.. we made a successful go at potty training... she got lots of treats...and it was hot, so she didn't have much on... We played with Mother Nature again.. I found the mother peacock's nest in neighbor's ivy..7 eggs... she got off the nest today and came down for water and food and Summer and I took 6 chicken eggs from the incubator and ran up to her nest and made the switch.... she took to chicken eggs with no problem... and the peacock eggs are in incubator... Now... who would just love a baby peacock to raise???? As I have said before, we are at our limit here on the hill so no new babies....seems sad, but mom peacock is happy with her chicks.... I seriously need to find a home for peachicks and I cannot tell male from female for months....

Lala, wouldn't the peacock successfully hatch and fledge the chicks if you leave the eggs there? Or do you just want the peacocks? Do you play like Dr. Sharpe and switch them back once they have hatched? |

Linda, when the mother hatches the baby chickens, I put her and the chickens in the hen house.. last year I had a home for her three baby peacocks as soon as they hatched... I think for me, it would be too hard taking the 7 babies away from her as they stay very close to each other for over a year.. her two babies from two years ago are still calling for her now that she is away on a nest.. very sad cries...I guess I do it for myself as I can't take the peacocks away from her once they hatch... the baby chickens I can keep...and she can be with them forever...also, if I take the peacocks away when they hatch, she will just go hide and lay more eggs and start all over... this way she feels she has gone through her cycle of laying eggs, hatching them and then mothering....We have 4 males and 2 females on a small hill here in Oak View, with 5 houses... we all agree that what we have is fine, bordering on too much already.... |

Have enjoyed all the info on The Farmers Market, Lala...went there as a kid. Also, Gilmore Field for the Hollywood Stars baseball games and Gilmore Stadium to see the Midget Car Races...what a history that area has. I, also, enjoyed Grand Central Market on Broadway. Went there often as a kid with my mother and our big treat was to sit at the counter and have a milk shake. Interestingly, I happened to find a job working a couple blocks away from GCM back in about 1962. A very pregnant workmate and I would walk down there for lunch. I remember the peanut butter machine. GCM began in 1917 and even when I went there in the '60's it seemed as though nothing had changed. Chiquita |

That is so amazing, Lala! I didn't know you were in the fostering business! I wish I could take a peacock but I don't think my neighbors in the condo complex would enjoy listening to it - I understand they can be quite noisy. I doubt my cat Houdini would welcome a bird big enough to beat her up either! Julie - Do you fish too, or just Brad? Is he thinking about at Casitas or maybe stream or ocean fishing? I love to fish but haven't in quite a while. |
