Hello,

Things are a bit slow right now before we start banding the birds at the end of the month. Steffani has taken a week off and Stephanie has come down to cover for her and get experience on another island. All 8 chicks in the 5 nests on Catalina are doing well and were checked yesterday. We are going to try to work on the Twin Rocks camera this weekend, or at least to get a good look into the nest to see the chicks.

As you can see on the Two Harbors nest, there is an obvious developmental difference between the dominant and subordinate chicks, but this is normal and the differences will become less obvious as they grow more feathers. I get many emails from people concerned that they don't see the adults on the nest. The photo below shows where the adults tend to perch to keep an eye on the nest.

And here is some video of the nest taken yesterday.

I also checked on the West End nest yesterday and recorded some video of the chicks that is a bit cleaner than that online.

On the way to feed the captive birds I stopped by Thompson Reservoir to see what the Middle Ranch pair was up to. They were both perched on the shore feeding on a fish that A-32 had caught.

That is all for now. Hopefully we'll get some video of Twin Rocks for you next week.

Great videos, Dr. Sharpe! So cool to be able to see the eagles somewhere other than their nests occassionally. And to be able to see the surrounding areas of the nests, also. Thanks for your work in putting the videos together for us to see. I know it takes a lot of time to do that and we really appreciate it. Glad Steffani is getting some vacation time. All of you deserve that with all the hours you all put in on the islands. Thanks again :)

so banding is just around the corner - time flies! thanks so much for the update and videos! HI Stephanie :}^ A little different setting than the Norther Islands!
Would be great to have TR back on - they need someone to tell them to move the nest back....... better view! Good to see TR pair! We always enjoy "riding" along each week! :ok:

Thanks Dr. Sharpe, what a great update. Although being there Monday, and seeing the chicks, they are surely thriving. Plus we saw where mom and dad perch below. Steffani is just incredible, she's a priceless asset to the IWS and the work you guys do on the islands.

Thank You Peter! Loved the video of A32 & K93 --they are both handsome and regal. A real treat to see them together like that at the water's edge.

:X: for TR cam.

Glad Steffani is having some R&R and I am sure Stephanie is enjoying checking out the goings on on Catalina----Pimu and Heidi must give her great pleasure too.

Dear Dr. Sharpe,

Thanks for spelling Steffani this week in her reporting duties. I enjoyed seeing just where the parents are hanging out while they are "babysitting."

I can't believe banding is coming up again! Time flies and so do eagles. :D

Thanks Dr. Sharpe for taking the time to give us a great update. I really enjoyed seeing where the Two Harbor parents hang out to watch their offspring and how the surrounding area looks. I also enjoyed the videos you took.

I hope you have a great rest of the week and weekend and can get some video of the Twin Rocks eaglets! ^"^ ^"^ We would love to see them.
Thanks again!

Thank you Dr. Sharpe for the view of the TH nest, always wondered about the surrounding area and the position of the nest. The WE nest has a view of the nest site on the IWS site but not the TH. Any other pics of the area would be greatly appreciated. :D
