Hi everyone,

Suzanne and I were on Santa Cruz Island this tour. This week we did not survey very much because the breeding season is ending and we needed to start gearing up for the trapping season. We did however take advantage of some beautiful days by surveying the north shore on the boat.
One day we were able to put a small fish out on the water and from well over one hundred meters A-00 went down and took the fish. Jessica Sanchez an Island Fox biologist with IWS was with us and she took these great photos of A-00 making acrobatic adjustments as he observed the fish from flight.

On a different day Suzanne and I found a mystery BAEA near Fry’s harbor. We still have not been able to clearly read her wing tag numbers. We know that A-46 has been spending a lot of time here and on a previous survey we have seen both BAEA’s together. Hopefully this is a sign that they could become a pair and utilize this section of the coast.
We were also able to find one of the West End pair perched high on the cliffs. On our way back to Prisoners Harbor we stopped at the famous sea cave called Painted Cave. It truly is a very big cave and makes the zodiac feel very small inside.

Suzanne and I went to Catalina Island last week and participated in banding of the chicks from the West End nest. It was as most of you already know a very thrilling experience. The BAEA parents were majestic as they fiercely defended their young. And the spectacular weather and setting was unforgettable. If you would like you can see most of the photos I took at my Flickr photo page link. These photos were taken with the 200mm lens and so that is why there are no close ups of us banding the chicks.

This was Suzanne’s last tour and we wanted to thank her for her contributions this year. Suzanne was a very hard worker and brought and had a lot of enthusiasm for her work. We wanted to wish her the best on her new adventure as a student at Texas State in San Marcos. Suzanne will be studying for her doctorate in conservation biology.

Unfortunately I too have to say goodbye to the IWS crew as I will be leaving the Northern Channel Islands Bald Eagle Program. I wanted to thank everyone for sharing their observations, stories, and enthusiasm for this wonderful animal. We have been lucky to see into the lives of these Bald Eagles which will be known as the ones responsible for wild Bald Eagles on the Channel Islands. I have been blessed to have spent time out on these magical islands, the Galapagos of North America. I really, absolutely, highly recommend for everyone to come and visit their National Park.

Dear Cedric,

Thanks for sharing some truly fabulous photos with us! Just spectacular!

Best of luck to you and Suzanne as you move on to your next adventures. Thank you for keeping us well-informed as to what's been going on in the northern islands.

Know that you have done something very, very important in your time with IWS-- you've helped put something back-- helping in restoring the eagles to their rightful place-- that has been wrong for a very long time. You can be proud of what you've done (just wish the birds had been more fertile and cooperative this year, though!) and it'll truly be something to tell your kids and grandkids about-- your time with the eagles. Plus, you'll have the pictures to prove it. :D

Good luck and best wishes as you move on.

Thanks to all the crew for your wonderful work and updates! Is there a chance that your mystery BAEA near Fry’s Harbor could be our own A-49/Cruz? Some of us Cruzers are rooting for an A-46/A-49 pairing! :X:

Your slide show was spectacular! I love the contrast of the placid eaglets with the raging parents....

Best of luck to you, Cedrick , and to Suzanne as you continue your journeys.
