This week, Amanda, Rosanne, and I were on Santa Cruz Island gettting ready for the upcoming trapping season. As you all know from last weeks update, Cedrick is no longer with us. It was great working with him and hopefully he'll come back to visit the island and the eagles in the future. We don't really have any big news to report. We spent most of our time working on the ATVs, trucks, and getting the boat ready. The weather was too windy to head out on the boat at all for eagle sightings. We headed to several territories this week, but got skunked by the eagles, so not many visuals to report. I headed out to Christy and Sauces and got a visual of a third year eagle, but couldn't read the tags. It was a very windy day, so the eagle cruised up the canyon as I was driving out to the coast. I did get a visual of one of the Sauces adults perched in their usual spot at Christy Beach. In other news, Rosanne Bowdry will be leaving us as the end of the nesting season has arrived. It was a pleasure to work with her and we wish her the best of luck in the future. She will be moving to the east coast in hopes of pursuing research on sea turtles. The only picture I have is one that was forwarded to me from the Santa Barbara Zoo employees. I'm sure many of you have gone to see A-35 hanging out at both the Zoo and the cemetery. ![]() Stephanie, Amanda, and Rosanne |

Oh have i got a great research location for rosanne to check out that may be sort of ironic. There is a town on the jersey shore that is on a barrier island where the sea turtles migrate into the back bay to lay their eggs and there are signs posted that read "Turtle Xing". There are members of the community who watch the one highway into town to assist the turtles in making it safely over the causeway so they can lay thier eggs and then when the young turtles hatch to return to the sea. This is where it gets to be such a fitting locale for her, it is AVALON, NJ. which was also where the late Ed McMahon had a home. Its a very nice community and not too far up the road from Cape May where the migrating birds along the east coast flyway stop before they decide to cross over the delaware bay and chesapeake bays.

Stephanie and Peter - wish you success in the coming trapping endeavor - we know how that's been in the past - those sneaky elusive eagles - but this year will be the year! thanks as always for the info and report and looking forward, as always - to the next one!

Best of luck Cedrick and Roseanne as you follow new paths! We so appreciate all you have done for our eagles! Hoping for success on the trapping! They were pretty clever last year if I am remembering correctly! |
