I don't know Penny. I kind of hesitate to ask since they may get defensive. Perhaps they'll offer up this info. the next time we visit. |

Good afternoon, all. We just got back from our short, but fun fishing trip. I caught 3 rainbows. 2 were small (about 9 or 10 inches); one was a really fat 14 incher. Since we practice catch-and-release, they all went back to grow up some more. DH caught 6 in the Red River; all were about the same size as mine. We camped in a spot new to us on the edge of the Carson National Forest. It was beautiful and right on the river, but not nearly as isolated as our usual choice of camping areas. It was also lower in elevation than we usually go (only about 7500 feet), so it wasn’t as cold at night – a toasty 41F! LOL |

LOL CatM - we have the scouts checking on the Albuquerque and area weather since they are heading that way on Sat! We keep telling them expect some chill at night at higher altitudes! (unlike sea level here)! sounds like you had a great time - any time away is good! |

Deb, it would depend a lot on elevation, but usually the eastern side of the mountains is a little (emphais on little) warmer - maybe only went to 46F last night. LOL |

It did get very hot during the day, but finding shade cools the air by at least 20 degrees. A cloud will do the same. Our campsite was filled with lots of birds. One of my favorite birds, the black-billed maypie, was all around. Although I love them, they can be real pests. They will steal anything they can carry. Since they are about 20 inches, they can carry fairly large objects. We had a magpie nest not far away. The fledglings could compete noisewise with our eaglets when a parent arrives with food! ![]() The adult has a large black and white body. The wings and tail are iridescent. In direct sun they are blue/green. A very beautiful bird. ![]() |

Yes, very noisy bird - even when all grown up. They also immitate other animals, even humans. A fun bird. Can drive you crazy to hear a dog barking from high up in a tree. |

Enjoyed the pictures of the black billed magpie, catM. I haven't seen them here in our area but do remember them on a trip to Tennesse or Kentucky, I believe. Their iridensces makes them quite spectacular along with their size. I, too, have noticed that we have been hearing less and less of Peetie. I do miss her posts but understand that it's good to aquire new friends and find new things to do on the internet. I've been on the forum only a year but it seems that many of the friends that were here a year ago are no longer here. By the way, how is HulaBird doing? Chiquita |
