Well, I am going to go. I've had my hot shower and now, as Kathie said, I need a real bed. Have a nice evening, all.

Thanks guys....I'll tell him. I just saw a new clip on a fire fight there. I'm sure that must have been where he was killed. For the mom and wife I hope his face is not among the pictures they just showed. Paul knows all too well how this happens. Two tours in Nam taught him a LOT! All bodies are flown to Dover for processing. It's on CBS news with Katie Couric.

Condolences to Paul. How tragic.  Every time I hear some troop member is killed in Afghanistan I dread looking at the name since my best friend's son is there as a Navy seal. He is supposed to have about 32 days left on this current tour of duty there.

Jill...my cousin's DH is there as well. It's his 4th time, I believe. 1st 3 were to Iraq.

Cat, what a beautiful spot to fish... looks like you were using bait???  no fly fishing???...just the way it looks...  we had a large magpie at Convict.. they are quite striking... nice picture!!!

Yes, the canyon is spectacular. It is along the Red River, just above where it joins the Rio Grande. I prefer using bait. Caught two of the fish on worms from my garden. DH likes fly fishing. He even ties his own flies.

Cat, good for your DH tying his flies.. my kids were really into that when they were in high school.. went to Stanley, Idaho and fished like crazy in the Salmon River...stayed in little cabins along the river... very primitive.....then back to Sun Valley where we had a great condo to use.. fixed a few trout dinners while on that trip... I had the best luck fishing with my own worms from the chicken pen.. the fish didn't recognize them from the 'local' worms...what a way to spend the day...

Wow, I guess he was the only one that was killed. Amazing from the shots they just showed on the news cast. It's tragic but I think each life that is lost is tragic. From the newscast it looked like the Taliban were in a much better position up in the hills.

So Cat I know you've gone to bed but just wanted to say sounds like you had a nice trip. Good job catching the fish. Do you ever eat any? Nice pictures tool.

Peetie glad you are having a good time with your farm.

Jill I hope they don't let the new little puppy out for the coyote. But hunger is a strong motivator.

I  rotties

I have a feeling they will let the new one out just like the last one, but maybe only on a leash (sp?) when it's at night? Who knows. I have yet to talk to them, will probably call the S-DIL this week. Giving them a few days to settle in being back home from Yosemite. I have no influence over them on what they do with a pet. :(

Such sad news about Paul's nephew Sandie :( and two little girls have lost their daddy :'( :'(
Prayers for everyone who knew and loved him :candle:

catM that is an idyllic fishing spot. In the United States, our Red River is sometimes called the Red River of the North, to distinguish it from the Red River that is a tributary of the Mississippi River, which forms part of the border between Texas and Oklahoma.
Long a highway for trade, the Red has been designated as a Canadian Heritage River. :)^

Jill please mention to the people with the Yorkie that maybe it would be a very good idea to get an enclosed kennel (with a roof) to put the puppy into when it is outside just in case...especially at night. It didn't seem to stop the coyote when someone was outside with their dog before

I worry here too, even with the yard lights on, and one of us is always with Siobhan whenever she is outside because we get the odd wild animal coming up from the river even in the winter. Yorkies are very speedy and the puppy would probably go investigate anything as they are totally fearless.

I don't suppose anyone does when it comes to much of anything. Everything we do in our lives are our own decisions. They can be made on suggestions from loving people but in the end....it's theirs only.
