Chiquita - Vous parlez Francais tres bien. Je parle jusque un petit peu. Mom mari ma dit que je parle Francais comme une vache Espanol  . Alan parle Francais tres bien, mais comme un Quebecoise, je parle comme un Parisienne.

Mon orthographe est mauvaise, pardon.

Sorry if spelling and grammar is bad, haven't written French in over 35 years.

Penny.... Sorry about the weather. Is this unusual for this time of year? Siobhan must hate all that weather. Come here....beautiful sunshine everywhere. I think summer finally arrived.

Sandie we usually have hot dry summers with the occasional overnight rain shower... skies are a beautiful blue, no smog, no traffic jams :D so this weather is out of the ordinary to say the least and we are going to get it for another day from the looks of things  I put a large plastic plant pot outside that is 12" h x 12" diameter. It was full to the top in 15 minutes.

UH OH mosquitoes will be here in droves now :o The sky is darkening right now before another downpour :(

Thanks for the link to the gardening site I'll have to try the Epsom salts for my roses :)^
I snagged this lovely Atlas Moth from their gallery. The tips of its wings look like Eagle heads if you use your imagination :P

I love the old nasturtium tablecloth on which you have placed your basket of tomatoes. I envy you and all of your tomatoes. We have always had tons of tomatoes, so many, like you, that I could make tomato sauce and have plenty to share with neighbors. But no more...along with water rationing here now and the night visitors I most likely will be pulling my tomato plants out by the end of the month. Over the last few years the night varments (rats, possoms, etc) have discovered our tomatoes and eat them at night long before they have started to turn red. DH loves fried green tomatoes and he does them up himself. Two weeks ago I told him to go out and get what he wanted as it looked like the varments would get them all if he didn't. We got only three red ones this year, but only because I picked them early and let them ripen in the kitchen. The last few years I have had to take a plastic bag and wrap it around the cluster of green tomatoes at night and then in the morning untie it to let them breath...this year the rats, or what ever, made big holes in the plastic to get to the tomatoes. My little yellow pear volunteers are about all that is left. Even my peppers are doing poorly...nothing to share with neighbors this year.

I like the picture of the quail family and bobcat.

Chiquita

Chiquita, I understand completely about your tomatoes.. This has been a very successful year due to my son helping me and hauling chicken fertilizer.. but the main thing that helped this year is the drip system we used.. slow, deep watering at night and then off for a few days... I too have a rat problem, but not with the tomatoes.. they want to be in the chicken house and we are still plugging holes with cement when we find them... thats why the three baby chickens still spend the night in my kitchen.. DH says: "when are you going to let them out all night"?? I say: "when they get bigger than the rats"...

Have you seen that hanging upside-down tomato thing advertised on TV? Maybe that's the way to go for those with persistent (and hungry) critters!

I'm pretty sure Cricket has one of those.. and my nephew in Rancho Santa Margarita has a few of them... he had a few green tomatoes coming on his when I was there a couple of weeks ago....

Lala it's a touching tribute and so very very true that no one notices unless it's put right in front of you. I wonder why our men and women are not better "protected" that they don't get killed. That that would be an exception rather than a rule. I know we haven't lost a lot of people in this war say compared to Viet Nam, except if that one belongs to YOU it's all the world. :(

Penny you have a sharp eye. Don't know as I would have noticed the tips of the moth if you hadn't pointed it out. Sorry for your weather anomolly. Seems everyone is experiencing a change this year.

A little while ago I hear my gate open. I got excited thinking some one was visiting. I opened the screen door just as the meter reader approached the doorstep. We both jumped. I should not have.....I was expecting someone!!!
She told me a lot of people have been so disturbed by the recent murder people have changed their locks and codes around here. I'm glad they are turning off the electricity during the day. It's just too spooky at night.

I don't know french but I could almost make out the words. I took Spanish in school and I still speak it quite often. It comes in handy once in awhile.

No, steak. rofl

We usually release the fish we catch. DH sometimes keeps one, which he cooks for dinner right away. We hardly ever bring any home.
