We really love the solar fountain. The one we had last year was super. I am heartbroken that it broke. All the birds love the fountain. It runs whenever the sun hits the solar panel. They do make storage units that store the power of the sun so that the fountain can run at night or when the sun is not out. Because the sun is so strong here, ours runs almost all day. (We are at 6500 feet) I may look into getting one of the storage packs.

CatM - I love it!  Solar powered! :)^   Does it have an area you can fill with water - or do you have to have it hooked up to a water source?

You put water in the larger bowl and the pump brings it up to upper bowl, which overflows back into the larger bowl. DH fills it up every few days, unless it rains.

Could you email me the name of the store. That is perfect for what I need! Thanks!

Ditto for me too catM :)^

<::: Xi Lan Update

King of the log structure?

Posted Image Posted Image
Image Zoo Atlanta............... Image by Helene

Wednesday, July 15

The pandas have been extra busy this past week, as their usual summer decrease in appetite has led to a flurry of playful exuberance. Both Mei Lan and Xi Lan have given us some memorable moments.

Although it’s steamy hot weather outside, the usual Atlanta summer, we experienced a unique “snowstorm” this week in the panda building. Mei Lan was given a box stuffed with shredded paper and fruit hidden underneath this. She made quick work of the box, tearing away to find the food inside. What we did not expect, however, was her excitement over the paper. Her own kind of snow! With great enthusiasm, Mei Lan began covering herself in the paper shreds and soon was looking very messy. She, nor we, minded though. I think we all enjoyed this July snowstorm.

Meanwhile, Xi Lan has been discovering bamboo and all of its possibilities. He has taken to hoisting big pieces of his mother’s bamboo up to the top of the wooden structure in the dayroom and ceremoniously attempting to gnaw on some of the leaves. Though we aren’t sure how much of the bamboo he’s actually consuming, it is extremely endearing to watch him try!

Hey Cat that was wonderful. Will be checking it out later. I really like the solar idea.

Penny that's a lot of rain water. Whatcha gonna do with it?

I have something eating my rose bush....not sure what to do about it either. Guess I have to take the leafs down to see what it is. :unsure: It does not look like snails but then I'm not a very good gardner!

I'm struggling trying to finish my creative writing for my fair entry. Wish there was a more creative way to get people to look at those entries. Only people that write or know someone that has written one look at those entries. Usually at least. Sonja passed away recently that handled that set of entries. She always struggled with that problem. She also handled the table setting competition.
