per yesterdays shark discussion. dolphins do indeed ram sharks and kill them so when a school of dolphin are around it is safe to assume a shark is not. Dolphins are awesome and we are swimming with them later on this weekend. |

This is only part of the story regarding sharks and dolphins. Both are awesome creatures and I have a great deal of respect for both of them. Dolphins CAN kill a shark by ramming it at a high speed, but only if they feel threatened. They will avoid trouble if at all possible. A basking shark is non-treatening, so it is highly unlikely that it was injured by a dolphin. |

Great photos George! Lala hoping you share some of the ones you will be entering. Sorry I'm still MIA and will be for a while - Got back from Sedona (Dad is doing well) on Monday night. Laurie went in for her first checkup after the second surgery and ended up in emergency bone repair surgery on Tuesday afternoon. The xray of the new plate and screws really looks good. She called at 8 last night, scared, they were taking her for a cat scan for a possible pulmonary embolism (PE). Of course, I flew down there. The preliminary results are bilateral PE - a clot in both lungs. They gave her a large dose of blood thinners. She's having an ultrasound right about now to see if there are any clots in her legs. All prayers and positive thoughts are most welcome. This has been a nightmare... |

In my 45+ years of sailing, we saw many basking sharks. One ran into our keel out near Anacapa. When we hauled the boat, there were little black marks from him on the keel. He was a cool site, coming at us with his mouth open eating plankton. Very gentle sweet animals. Once between here and Hawaii, we were in the doldrums, and a school of dolphin were around us. I couldn't resist, I jumped in and had about 20 of them swimming around me with no fear. Truly something I'll never forget. |

Sharon - Thoughts and prayers for Laurie's recovery. She has been through so much, I hope that from now on it is all uphill to a full recovery.
