Vickie, that is sad. Even in areas where there are trash barrels, we always pack it out. I amazes me how many campers do not take their trash either to a barrel or with them when they leave. DH brings a rake with us and he spends the first hour or so cleaning up the area. Very sad. |

Thanks catM! We've also got bell peppers, jalapenos, yellow squash, grape tomatoes, roma tomatoes, habeneros (sp?), Thai peppers, Armenian cucumbers & hungarian (sp?) wax peppers growing. The green beans were destroyed by the gopher & the snap peas already got mildew & died. I'm trying to grow more beans & peas by seed though. Just planted them, so we'll see. There are also potatoes growing that are just coming up voluntarily since we put compost soil in our garden. I planted too many tomatoes too close together this year so next year I'm only going to plant a couple in my small plot. I can't get to the worms to kill them & the plants didn't grow all that high, like LaLa's! She's got a way better harvest than me!

Jillers your veggies and flowers look great! I have never heard of a lemon cucumber! I was unable to open the video you posted a few days ago about that young soldier that was killed and returned home until yesterday. I got on my dh's newer computer and was able to see it. I was so proud of the people in that area for coming out and honoring him that way. It was awesome and so very touching. I still tear up when I think about it. I plan to send it along to my email list. Vicki your experiences with the shark eating near your boat and swimming with the dolphins sound wonderful! I was so sad to hear about that condor! What a senseless death. Topa love the get well wishes for Hulabird! |

I had never seen a lemon cucumber...I thought it was a cute little pumpkin. What a fabulous garden you have, Jillers. Today I picked the last of my green tomatoes and chopped them up for relish that I'll make tomorrow...I had such poor luck with the garden this year...can't believe it did so badly. I still have about 5 Anaheim pepper plants left but everything will come out by the end of the week as we are going on vacation in about 10 days. One year I had potatoes come up from my compost, too!!! Chiquita |

My DH likes the lemon cucumbers better than the long green ones. You can find the pkgs. of seeds at most nurseries I think. They grow easily & they will climb up if you want them too. I've never grown Anaheim peppers, how do you use them, in cooking? DH likes hot peppers so I grow mostly those. Although we both like bell peppers. I'd rather yams came up in my compost! I mostly buy yams now since they're better for a person than potatoes! I finally had to cut back some of the growth of the potatoes as it was shading too many of the plants in the garden! So where are you headed to for vacation?

I had never heard of a lemon cucumber either Karen until we saw them in a friend's garden here in SB! Now that is usually the only kind of cucumber I plant! This year I did decide to try Armenian cucumbers. I've picked one, but I think I picked it a bit too soon. I'll let the next one get bigger. So far I'm not impressed with the taste of those. We'll see. I'm so glad you were finally able to watch that moving tribute. I sent it to my list too. |

I am definately going to remember lemon cucumbers for next year...glad to hear you can get the seeds...I find growing from seed challenging plus when I plant from seed I always feel that the summer garden is half way on it's way even though it might still be cold outside. I usually grow Anahiem, Sweet Banana and Poblano peppers...chop them up, freeze them and use them in relishes soups and stews. If I get too many I just steam them up and put them in a sandwich. We are headed to Catalina...am SO ready to get there!!! Chiquita |
