Remember the incident that sent Tiny off his nest way too early? ![]() Some people thought that Hero did it with malicious intent  Most of us knew that it was a behaviour that happens when groups of eagles congreate and sure enough here is the exact same behaviour exhibited by the two Norfolk sisters yesterday.... This is HE trying to get the best spot on the branch from Azalea ![]() And she eventually pushed Azalea right off the branch and took her spot on it ![]() ![]() Images by Mike Inman |

Falcon on Harrisburg building suffers broken beak by EMILY OPILO, Of The Patriot-News Thursday July 16, 2009, 9:00 PM Yellow Girl Click image for video One of the falcons living atop the Rachel Carson Building in Harrisburg has a critical beak injury, Pennsylvania Game Commission officials said. The falcon, which was one of five born this spring, appears to have lost the lower half of her beak and fractured the upper half, commission spokesman Jerry Feaser said. The falcon must be caught and X-rayed to determine if the beak will grow back. Officials suspect the falcon was startled by Fourth of July fireworks and smashed into a building. If the beak cannot be fixed, the falcon will not be able to feed herself, Feaser said. She would be the second falcon death this summer. A male falcon from the same family was euthanized after both of his legs were severed near train tracks, Feaser said. http://www.pennlive.com/midstate/index.ssf...g_building.html George isn't this falcon family the ones you have taken many 's of? |

Strange, in the video Mr. Feaser makes one feel that it is all the Game Commission's idea to try to help Yellow Girl! In any event, I hope she can be helped. |

catM isn't that always the way? The Game Commission only got involved after a torrent of emails to media outlets forced them to do something instead of saying 'the falcon is doomed' People power is awesome

Another Bald Eagle Patient at WCV ![]() Eagle #09-1671 This young eagle — hatched earlier this spring — was first observed on the ground near Doughtery, Accomack County. The young eagle could not fly; it was being fed by an adult eagle, but by July 9 the adult was gone. The bird was rescued by wildlife rehabilitator Kathy Cummings and taken to the Eastern Shore Animal Hospital. The bird was given fluids and food; subsequent care was provided by Ms. Cummings. On July 16, the eagle was transported to the Wildlife Center of Virginia, with transport provided by NESTI volunteers Barbara Monaghan and Mike Fowler. Upon admission, the eagle received a complete examination. During the physical examination, Dr. Elizabeth Daut found old fractures in the bird’s left metacarpal bones — fractures likely sustained in the nest that had started to heal. (Subsequent radiographs confirmed this diagnosis.) The eagle is receiving pain medication, antibiotics, and fluids and will be given several days of cage rest. The plan is to move the eagle into one of the Center’s outdoor pens later in the month to assess the bird’s ability to extend its left wing. Thus far in 2009, the Wildlife Center has admitted 30 eagles — 29 Bald Eagles, and one Golden Eagle.

I haven't been giving the hawk anything.. he seems to be doing fine with his mother.. Scout did bring a gopher in last week that I threw in the field near him and he did spot it.. but don't think he was hungry.... so now I don't worry.... |
