It is sort of fitting however that Walter decided to pass while the shuttle and station were aloft and active. Of course too he will always be rememembered for that report from dallas in nov 1963 too. |

So sad.
Walter Cronkite was the voice of so many of the pivotal events of the 60's for me. The Kennedy assassinations, the first moonwalk - the events that many of us have fixed in our minds so clearly that we can tell you exactly where we were and what we were doing, even what we were wearing!

The first thing that comes to mind when I hear the name Walter Cronkite is his report from Dallas on Nov. 22, 1963...where I was and what was happening in my life. Chiquita |

Yes, iggle, I can even tell you where I was standing and what I was wearing on 11-22-63 when I heard WC's broadcast. Chiquita |

Funny thing, i never made the connection to how folks could remember to the moment what they were doing when JFK was shot in Dallas. That is until March 21,1981 when the attempt on Ronald Regan was made. I know exactly what i was doing then as i was literally across the street from the Hilton and also about 2 blocks away from the Hospital he was taken to. Now I do understand. Wasnt it Walter who also did the show "You are THERE" about historical moments in history ? |

I was sitting in my 5th grade class and my teacher ran down the hall and grabbed the TV = bringing it to our room so we could follow the breaking news.... she was crying something awful - school dismissed early .... never forget .... |

Deb...me too! But it was announced over the loud speaker by the principal and I remember my teacher (whom I hated!) crying something awful! I don't remember what I was wearing, tho. |
