Went to the Country Music Jam Tuesday. One of the musician's daughters came with her new "baby" - a Miniature Schnauzer. He slept through 2+ hours of live music, applause and singers. rofl

That is a beautiful butterfly Marti :)^ Do you know what it is called? I guess your artificial flowers must look pretty real to entice him.

Penny - I later thought about it and now feel guilty. Mom laid her eggs in those beautiful flowers. He hatches and climbs up for his first meal, and what does he get... Plastic. :'( I went back out to see if he was still there and was going to take out some sugar water to get him started in his little life. Not to worry, he evidently flew away to better locations for some sustinance.

Deb - With all the food and drink Phil Sr. is getting, ES is going to have to pay for overweight baggage on the flight home. rofl Then again he will probably lose some weight while hiking.

<::: Adult eagles open nest for rescued young bird

A baby eagle that would not have survived on its own has been moved to a new nest in Nanoose Bay, where it has been adopted by two adults with a chick of their own.

A family discovered the injured eaglet on the West Coast Trail late last month. The bird had a sprained leg, likely from falling out of its nest. The family, stranded by bad weather in the boat-accessed area, fed the bird raw hamburger to keep it alive.

Two days later, the 10-week-old eaglet was brought to Duncan-based Pacific Northwest Raptors Ltd., an educational facility that also rehabilitates birds. With its original nest too remote to access and monitoring an issue, experts ultimately decided the find the eaglet a foster nest.

Nanaimo wildlife enthusiasts and the Ministry of Environment helped find the new home, nestled atop a tree on Department of National Defence property in Nanoose.

After a two-week recovery at the facility the eaglet, nicknamed Duchance for second chances, is thriving with his new family.

It is the first time the facility has introduced an eaglet into a foster nest, but experts say it has been done successfully several times on Vancouver Island.

"It was a very tense couple of days. There's always the chance it won't (be accepted)," said Pacific Northwest Raptors Ltd. spokeswoman Robyn Radcliffe.

Last Friday, a tree services worker climbed the tree and was able to lower Duchance into the nest from a duffel bag. The feat was posted on YouTube

Don't feel bad Marti, momma butterfly should have been able to tell the difference

Marti, loved your butterfly photo. I am pretty sure it is a Black Swallowtail.

Just got back from grocery shopping...

Penny :}^ Thank you for the NBG Butterfly video. Great stuff!

Thank you Cat! :}^ Now I know! Wonder if we will be seeing more!?

It is soooo funny here. Different times of the year - we get Monarch Butterfies, another time we get the black "love bugs", then the dragonflys appear. What else....? Oh yeah - the Texas Air Force (mosquitos) September/October is our hummer migration back south for the winter. They hang around until it starts to cool off. Then they move on.
