<::: Xi Lan Fix

Click pic for Pandaholic's photostream and video of Squish in his cool cave :D

Friday, July 17
Today the veterinary staff came to the panda building to do a routine visual check of Lun Lun while she and Xi Lan were in Dayroom 2. When the vets arrived, Lun Lun was a little preoccupied with eating, so she completely refused to come over to the window for the check-up, as well as for treats. Xi Lan, on the other hand, was more than willing to cooperate with us. He quickly descended from the climbing structure and headed over to the door where we were waiting. He is not quite tall enough to reach the window in the door comfortably, so he had to find an alternative method. Being a smart panda, he simply climbed atop the water bowl next to the door and leaned over to the window. We were more than happy to reward him for this by giving him some of the treats meant for Lun Lun. He took the biscuit and retreated to the water bowl to eat it, then returned for more. This process was repeated several times. When we were all out of treats, he climbed down to search for the biscuits and fruit that he had dropped. The vets weren't able to look at Lun Lun very well, but I don't think they were too disheartened, as they appeared more than happy to stay and help with rewarding Xi Lan. There is always tomorrow to check out Lun Lun.

Xi Lan weighed 20.6 kg this morning.

More than 11,000 people are now evacuated and another 6,000 residents remain on evacuation alert as two fires, 350 hectares and 100 hectares, rage in forests near residential areas of West Kelowna.

At last word, the Glenrosa fire covered 400 hectares, the Rose Valley fire 150 hectares and the Terrace Mountain Fire, west of Fintry, was 875 hectares in diameter.

Good news came in late Monday afternoon from the emergency command centre in Kelowna, which is co-ordinating the three forest fire fights on the west side of Okanagan Lake.
The fires did not grow significantly Monday afternoon.

An air tanker unleashes retardant on a forest fire that continues to burn in the Rose Valley area.

The B.C. Forest Service is assisting West Kelowna and Kelowna fire crews with 133 fire fighters, air tanker support and nine helicopters in the Glenrosa area. That fire remains between 40 per cent and 50 per cent contained.

The Rose Valley Reservoir fire has six helicopters water bucketing the area. A fire guard has been established on the west flank and aggressive air support is being added to the battle there. The area remains too steep for fire crews to work.

The Terrace Mountain fire is being battled by 68 fire fighters, five helicopters, heavy equipment and air tankers.

In order to accommodate all the crews, a massive fire fighters’ camp is now being established at Pine Stadium at the Westbank First Nation’s Sensisyusten Centre. More than 500 personnel, will be based there for deployment to the three fires, said B.C Wildfire Management Branch spokesman Rob Krause.

My sister lives about an hour from the main fire area but is not threatened at the moment :o :X:

Peetie how wonderful for you to finally see each other again. :><: :><: :><:

I remember how upset you were about this forced estrangement from your brother's son. I'm so happy for you and your family that he has come of age and can now make his own decisions. :**: :**: :**:

You look like you are already having a great time together :)^
