Well since today is the 23rd and my electricity goes off in 2 and 1/2 hours I thought I'd jump in the deep end of the pool and say hi....couldn't sleep so here I am instead.

Don't know if I'll be able to get on later. Will find out :D ...if I ever get to sleep!!

Good wishes to ES as he begins the long trek with the scouts and for Deb as you get ready for your trip too. Hope the printer is there for you today. So bossey won't be :bam:

Hopes that Yellow Girl will get the help she needs to continue her journey with help.

Looking forward to seeing more great pictures from all our talented people.

I'll see you next when I see you :D

DATELINE ESTONIA!!

Today, "Spot", The Lesser Spotted Eagle was viewed leaving the nest! He lifted off to a branch and may have perhaps fledged. Eha has been bringing new evergreen springs to cover the nest.

captures and shots of Spot and live camera here:

yes i am up early. I have to do the #@$#@$ doctor dash this am and want to get an early start to avoid the thunderstorms here. With any luck, I hope to be back before 2pm. Of course you KNOW that the odds wont be with me and i shall be sitting in an overstocked waiting room with lots of other patients for an hour or more past my scheduled time. :(

Fortunately the first appointment is with one of my doctors who doesnt overschedule so I can get in and out fast. :X: Luckily for me both doctors are in the same building

Good Thursday morning to all.

Today is Vanilla Ice Cream Day! Not my favorite, but if you mix it with 1/2 Orange Sherbit it will taste like a Cream Sickle. Yummy!

George good luck at the Doctor's today. I'll be thinking of you. Please be careful with your bike and cars ths time.

Sandie you might as well stay in bed till the Power comes back on. There won't be anything else to do.

LaLa here is the phone number for Pay Pal. 1-866-648-5871 at least you get to talk to someone with a heartbeat! That computerized woman is useless, and so are the men who send e-mails. None of them have a clue what the problem is. They all want more information after they have been told everything in detail. So since I have the number now I can, give them a George number, rant and rave, and they have to listen!

eaglepedia revisited

May 30, 2007

In reference to another program that tracks bald eagles and how they began:

"Instinct drives these migrations," said SCPBRG researcher Grainger Hunt. "These young birds have never hunted before and have never caught anything. Yet they leave their parents behind and suddenly, they fly a thousand miles north at the end of the summer. It's very surprising."

Bald eagle juveniles were tagged and if they and the satellite tags survive, biologists will be able to track their wanderings for the next two years. Did it stay in Canada - did it come come to its natal nesting area? The study of eagles also offers a glimpse into cycles of nature that are usually hidden from view.

"Bald eagles are indicators of the health of the global ecosystem," Hunt said. "These telemetry studies will teach us about the eagles' food web. We may learn that the ecology of California bald eagles is tied to the health of the northern salmon runs, and thus to the abundance of plankton in the Pacific Ocean."

It is believed the juveniles eat carrion because of their lack of skills and it's easy food found along big rivers where salmon die off. They will learn to catch live prey out of necessity, by the time they reach breeding age. The transmitters will send signals every 10 days for 2 years, falling off of the eagle at that time. The biologists hope to recover the $3,000 untis for future use if possible.

Thoughts and prayers for ES and scouts for a safe and enjoyable journey - so happy for ES and all the scouts for whom this is a new adventure.

Katie - How adorable is the little sloth - what a cute face - have rarely seen the face of the SB Zoo sloth since she is usually hanging up high and upside down.

Poor DH he is trying to get his plans and timing together for replacing the whole kitchen floor - rotted due to dishwasher leaking, and last night he discovered there is a leak in the outside pipes - I am hoping for him it is in the easy to get to area, otherwise it will take alot more work and deeper to get to - good thing he is retired so he can focus on it - had to shut off all the water to the house last night - using bottled water to brush teeth, wash up, etc.

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY JULIE - HOPE YOUR DAY WAS EXTRA SPECIAL IN EVERY WAY! CELEBRATE! CELEBRATE! CELEBRATE!

Carole - so happy to hear good fledging reports on all the eaglets both in Eagleland and the Channel Islands

Sandie - Maybe you will be able to sleep during the power outage - when will this all end for you and your neighbors?

HAVE A GREAT DAY EVERYONE!

Volunteered at the Zoovies last night - they showed "The Princess Bride" - WOW - what a turnout - alot of families but also alot of young people in their 20's - think this was a movie they grew up with - came out in 1987 or '89 - whole hilltop was full.
