Well, due to a change in plans, Stephanie and I both ended up heading out to Santa Cruz this past week in order to straighten out some maintenance and vehicle transportation errands that were in order. While this took up most of our week, we did manage to get out onto the boat to find a couple of eagles.

We headed out to Cueva to check on A00 and A16, and found one of them perched in their favorite tree. We also saw a mystery adult eagle with blue tags flying over K10 and K26’s territory (near Prisoner’s Harbor), but the eagle was too high and too fast to read the tags. Wonder who that was!

Unfortunately we have some bad news, we were sad to learn that A36 was found dead on Santa Rosa Island this past week. She had paired up with A39 this year, and we were hoping that they would nest this upcoming season in their territory on Rosa. We have recovered her body, but are not sure if we will be able to determine a cause-of-death. Poor A36.

Even more recently, we have found out that A02, the female from our Sauces pair on Cruz, has also been found dead in Pozo. What an unfortunate week for the eagles, we are so sad to lose both of these wonderful females.

On a lighter note, A64 has been exploring all over Cruz, and we put together a map of his GPS data to share with you what he has been up to.

Next tour Peter and I will be attempting to trap some eagles again. Peter has been working hard to perfect his fish nooses, so hopefully we will have some luck!

Until next time,

Amanda and Steph

Amanda and Steph - So sorry it has been such a sad week for you, it's terrible to lose both of these beautiful eagles. :'(

RIP A02 and A36 :candle: :^^^:

At least there is good news about Spirit A64 who has really been travelling the island.

Good luck with your eagle trapping.

I am saddened at the loss of A-36 & A-02. I tend to think that once they are all grown up they're safe, and it just isn't so.

Thankfully, we have a new generation coming up, and A-64 is a bright spot in this sad picture. Thank you so much for your marvelous work for this magnificent species.

So sorry for the loss of another two beautiful eagles. Another two entries in our Rainbow Bridge thread. :'(

This has been a rough season for the Northern Channel Islands.

Thanks for the map showing A-64's travels. Spirit has been a busy boy.

My heart is heavy with the loss of A-36 & A-02. :^^^: :candle: May you soar with the eagles who have crossed before you.

Now on a lighter note, my heart sings :ddd: hearing and seeing A64, Spirit's travels. I pray he stays on the islands and grows up to be a beautiful boy like his dad.

Shocking and sad to lose two paired females on the Northern islands. There isn't a connection, is there?!

RIP :^^^: A36 and A02 :candle: :candle:

How sad you will never :soar: over the Islands again. :'( Could they have eaten something that was contaminated with lead or botulism? Seems pretty unusual that they would both die within such a short space of time. Does Red Tide affect them through the food chain?

Great to hear that Skye is enjoying all his explorations :)^ He sure has been getting around. :D

Lovely little Island fox image too, so thanks for sharing Northern Channel Islands Crew, we know it isn't easy and sometimes it is very upsetting. We appreciate all you do for IWS and us. :><: :><: :><:

So sorry to hear about the tragic loss of 2 more precious precious Eagles of the Channel Islands.

On your happier news---my goodness A64 is sure covers a lot of territory in 2 days! Seems to be staying close to his nesting area neighborhood too for those couple days you posted his tracking.

The Island Fox photo is ADORABLE! <3
