Marti - I see your posts about the Wrightflyer. Are you, by any chance, a descendent of the Wright Bros.? |

WOW Marti you are on a roll this morning I'm going to send the ice cap to my sister who is broiling in BC Love the painted feathers too. The Exhibition plane looks so unbelievably fragile...hard to believe the Wright brothers had the guts to fly a contraption like that The volunteers are certainly a dedicated group. Kudo's to all of you

George I remember that tune..... What's that say about me!!! OLDMarti I had no idea you were a "fair" person!! Did you display at Ventura? Cause I surely would not have missed that....what year did you do that??? The Wright brothers were an interesting pair. They did not know that was dangerous. They just wanted to be like the birds.....smart guys. Thanks for showing us all of that. It's amazing and the building was rather large that they housed you in too. Volunteers......how would the world be without them. This is my 19th year volunteering at the fair. Karen what are you doing having another birthday? I thought you could only do that once a year??? I hope you are having a blast. Lala what happened to you yesterday??? Around 4pm I started to get really worried. Did you get your photos entered.....did I miss you???? I was there all day. Thanks for the compliments on the afghan. I thought it was interesting to have two so similar afghans there. Out of all the yarn and patterns on the planet!!! Her pattern she said she had from back in the 70's. Mine must be an updated version from that. I never expect to win anything. All I want to do is boost the entries. Maybe now with the economy people will stay home and do more crafts. Now my creative writing I hold my fingers crossed for!!! I'd like to see them have a little better display but they just sit in books and we pray someone sits down to read them. This year I heard they were going to have someone reading them. Now that I like!!! I guess I won't be doing the tablesetting this year. My friend Maria got her letter in early also and was able to compete. She does a nice table every year. And poor Tim will be heartbroken to not be in this year. Me, I just think about the work involved and I'm fine not entering. Laurie I know what you mean....I used to be so glad to a normal routine. I liked going away but it was always good to get back comfy home. No one fills in for you while you are gone??? Well, at least it's job security. Oh Lala.....where are you???? |

Harpo sent me this picture yesterday via cell phone, but I wasn't at home to post it. Five minutes after we got home, our electricity went out for several hours. By the time it came back on it was too late to post, so here it is today. Looks like quite a crowd!![]() Special thoughts for both Deb & Gary and their troups on their special trips this week. |

Penny I'll say that bird was feisty. Probably hot too!! Now I see how he was brave enough to hold that bird with his bare hands!! The gloves he wore at first almost reached his armpits. I guess they really can't move around much in the crate either. Reminded me of Spirit and Skye

Jann - Thanks for posting Deb's photo, WOW, one huge group! Talking about power outages I have had my computer off more than on due to so many thunderstorms passing through the area. The weather this summer is awful.

Thanks for the comments on the Wright Flyer! Linda, after working on the project as a volunteer for the past 17 years, I guess I must be related in some way to the Wright brothers (it's in my blood, so to speak). We arrived at each venue usually one or two weeks early. Since it was the Centennial of Flight, we were in the prime spots. At the Houston Convention Center, a huge rectangular building, they had to put us in an empty building (in the center) and build all of the other displays around us. The airplane has a 40 foot 4 inch wing span, and there is no way it can go around sharp corners. It was like a ship in a bottle! Once we got in, we couldn't get out until all the other displays were taken down and cleared out. This all had to be preplanned at each venue so we had time to get to the next venue. My favorite moments, the "rehursal" day for all the pilots to go through the complete routine - before the Las Vegas Airshow at Nellis AFB - standing by the taxi way and all the Thunderbirds taxiing by and each saluting our team. It wasn't a part of the show, but it was darned special. The second special time was when we were asked by the Stealth Fighter Team at the Van Nuys Airshow if we could meet them out on the runway at the end of the show (after all the crowds left). We had a Stealth Fighter on each wing of the 1903. Again, there is out Centennial of Flight transport truck in the background) Note our great security by our airplane. It was interesting. They travel with multiple pilots, a team to keep the Stealth Fighters running smooth, and a team of security - who NEVER leave the airplane.![]() Ohhh, and can't forget at Edwards AFB (That's where the drones in the Middle East are remotely piloted from!!!) They brought Global Hawk in - nose to nose with the 1903 Wright Flyer airplane (remotely piloted from somewhere on base - no one was in the plane!) ...and also a combined team photo of their pilots and our team.
