A little story to share: A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead. He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them. After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble... At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight. When he was standing before it he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold. He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side. When he was close enough, he called out, 'Excuse me, where are we?' 'This is Heaven, sir,' the man answered.. 'Wow! Would you happen to have some water?' the man asked. Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up. 'The man gestured, and the gate began to open. 'Can my friend,' gesturing toward his dog, 'come in, too?' the traveler asked. 'I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets.' The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going with his dog. After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence. As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book. 'Excuse me!' he called to the man. 'Do you have any water?' 'Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there, come on in.' 'How about my friend here?' the traveler gestured to the dog. 'There should be a bowl by the pump.' They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it. The traveler filled the water bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog. When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree. 'What do you call this place?' the traveler asked. 'This is Heaven,' he answered. 'Well, that's confusing,' the traveler said. 'The man down the road said that was Heaven, too.' 'Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope. That's hell.' 'Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?' 'No, we're just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind.' |

The HSUS ( Humane Society USA ) Guide to Vegetarian Eating Vegetarian eating is an effective and positive way to help farm animals. Indeed, any reduction in the amount of animal products we consume makes a difference for animals. Praise yourself for every step you take toward adjusting your food choices and know that with every vegetarian meal you enjoy, you are helping to prevent animal abuse. http://www.hsus.org/farm/resources/pubs/gve/ Decisions We Make ![]() We are creatures of conscience, and each one of us has the power to turn away from the cruelties of today's factory farm. Animals raised for food are not just objects or commodities—they are fellow individuals, with the same spark of life that we have, the same desire to live and enjoy their time on Earth. By making better food choices, we carry a message of compassion into the world, and our own lives are richer for it. For the animals, Wayne Pacelle President & CEO The Humane Society of the United States |

See now some of you actually appreciate and understand that it was the swing that is new. Jann and a few others of you thought a little different. And yes I AM enjoying my new place. I can't remember being this content and happy for a long time. Last night I posted some pictures of the puppy's we are raising. They have the softest ears. I'm trying to decide if I want to raise a baby or a puppy. The little ones piddle a lot *twice a night( sometimes and are very active. Or should I take a puppy that might be stronger and pull me over  Cricket and otherws any ideas???? Something I want to think through and maybe have not enough information to decide. Marti how do they do those paintings? Is there some special process? Well, I'm off to help the judges today. Opppppps Happy Birthday Sammy. |

Topa Thank you for your compassionate and brave HSUS post this morning. Words DH and I live by, and are always on alert for the hidden animal in things like jelly beans, marshmallows. Even Hostess Cupcakes and Twinkies list: "Beef Fat"! Life has been keeping me pretty busy but I do check in when I can. I'm absolutely outraged about the intruders on WE and hope they receive swift justice! TG it wasn't earlier in the season. Take care all.

Good morning Kris! I too loved Topa's post. I agree, all I can think of what if there were young chicks in that nest? I pray they're prosecuted. They should have captures of the video and post them like wanted posteers in Avalon and Two Harbors.

Hi again, all. Just got back from the clinic. I hope everyone had a great weekend. We went up north to fish. DH caught a lot of trout. He even brought two home. One he is going to grill tonight; one he gave to our elderly neighbor. She seems to enjoy the fish a bunch. I didn’t catch a thing. I tried worms, artificial worms. Salmon eggs, even power bait. Not even a nibble! When we were getting ready to leave, I was so frustrated, I took the glob of power bait off my hook and threw it in the water right where I had been fishing. A really big trout came out of the water and immediately grabbed it. It was quite a sight! We all had a good laugh. I guess that is why he was so large – one smart fish. |
