<::: REPORT FROM HANCOCK FORUM

GOOD NEWS !!!!

Bev phoned me. She has Bandit and is taking him to O.W.L.

She said he looks to be in good shape but he'll be checked out when she gets to OWL.

Bandit was standing in the long grass near the fence but it took a bit of work for Bev to capture him.

She said he's a bit skinny but not as skinny as Danny was last year !

Bev and Ralph --- WE LOVE YOU !!!

Thank goodness. Thanks for letting us know he's ok Carole.

Laurie - I'm getting too old for all this drama, I really let it get to me. As long as he's okay, who cares about another few gray hairs. How lucky for Bandit that Bev only lives 5 minutes away and that OWL is close by where he will be checked out and well fed.

This was bound to happen...at least Bandit is old enough to glide down to the ground. :)^

I am so happy that they found Bandit so quickly! I was so worried about him. Poor hungry baby! Hopefully he will check out okay and will get some >>: to fatten him up. :D Thanks for the update Carole!

Carole  I'm glad Bev is so close. I'm confident that Bandit will be just fine. I hope they don't put him back in that tree again. They need to cut that tree down before the next nesting season.

Penny - I watched the video again and just before the branch fell, I heard the beeps of a truck backing up. If it was one of those trucks with a high carriage (?) or lifting mechanism, it could have pulled the branch off accidentally. I would like to think that it wasn't a person who broke the branch off and caused this accident. The end result is what counts and thank goodness he will be well taken care of and fed lots of >>: .

Bandit, we  you........ Posted Image

I was thinking the same thing...that it could have been someone checking hydro lines or cutting tree limbs to keep them from interfering with them

Whew, that's good news that Bandit has been rescued :ok: and appears to be OK :X:
I was just going through this morning's threads, and was holding my breath as I read Carole's first post at the top of page 2, then was able to breathe again. I was worried when another part of his nest fell (yesterday?) as he was moving about. Also relieved that he finally got something to eat last night. I sincerely hope that in the off-season, someone can go up and completely remove the nest. That way, the parents will have to literally start over from scratch, hopefully in a different place, even if it won't be able to be viewed.

Laurie, the tree is on the property of a private landowner so they cannot just go in there and cut it down...the farmer was really not too happy when David Hancock asked his permission to put up the safety net just in case Bandit fell before he could fly because he believes in letting Nature take its course no matter what

What was making the noise with the branches breaking..? Sounded like a foot walking or crunching the sticks... wonder if they will but Bandit back up there?

Linda Bandit has been rescued and taken to O.W.L. where he will be put into a large flight cage and fed lots of really yummy food before he is released. Bev says he is in much better shape than Dan was when she got him last year...even though Bandit is a 'bit' on the skinny side. Yeah 4 days without food could cause some weight loss :D

O.W.L. already has 13 other birds who were prematurely ousted from their nests this year :o

We love your :clk: :clk: :clk: of the Santa Barbara Museum. DH and I will be going there next year for sure. Those displays are really stunning. Feel :( about all those hawks and eagles and the baby condor :'( but they have been beautifully preserved for generations to come.

Sasha with the Golden Eagle and both girls looking over the Chumash encampment are lovely :)^

Oh I didn't realize that. How unfortunate. :(

Thanks Penny, it was fun to watch the girls looking at the indian encampment.. talking to each other about what they were looking at .. the baby in the woven papoose.. the acorns they were gathering.. Sasha tasted food made from acorns this past year... Julie Tumamait made various things that the Chumash would have eaten.. and served them at a Land Conservancy Program...very tasty!..
