Startled Bandit flies off nest

"Did you watch the seekpoint and watch the branch on the bottom left before he flys - someone was trying to pull the branch!!" - posted by LilSal

I was hearing a truck backing up before anything happened --- tree trimmers??

It appeared that the branch was pulled down.

LaLa - Wonderful pics of the museum. You are such a good grandma exposing Sasha and Summer to all the wonders of nature. When they grow up, they will be better adults from your educating them about nature and wildlife. :)^

Marti, each day I'm just fascinated with the feather paintings, just beautiful. Thanks for sharing each day a new creation.

I didn't see the hand but I did hear the truck Marti. Whoever did that is going to hear about it from somebody I suppose...maybe the farmer who has the tree on his property. He surely wouldn't have trimmed the tree while Bandit was still in the nest.

Here is a pic of the larger flight cages at O.W.L. where Bandit will be housed.

These cages can be configured for all sizes of birds and most would be housed with others of their species. There are two eagles visible in the one on the far right

Thankfully sweet little Bandit was found. Our little eagles sure have a hard time out there. Men in trucks, idiots hiking over the West End Nest, humans are natures worst enemy. :'(

Carole, and Cruzers, keep us posted. I'm unable to access so much here at work, and appreciate all your updates.

Thanks Carole, but I have to say, I do it for myself as much as for them... thats why I want to go back....without them this time.. so I can read everything and concentrate....Summer, who is 3 now, just kept wanting to go to the next window....and would yell: "you won't believe it"... she was amazed at everything, especially the larger mammals.. bears, mountain lion, seals... all in a natural setting...

Wow poor bandit isn't getting a chance to live up to his name. Do the parents abandon them at this age......seems early to me!!

Went out last night and watched the sunset afterward. What a great night. It was nice and watched a few dolphin cruise by and one lone pelican. I've only ever seen brown pelicans before.

So today should be the last day until Monday for the fairgrounds. That's when they start the baked goods category. They need clerks for that....come on down!!!Then the fair opens. They finished judging the photos yesterday and should start hanging them up today. :X: for Lala's photos. I asked how many entries for the photos this year and she said they cut out some categories but entries overall are around the same. Lots of new entrants this year too. That's always nice to see :ok:

I'm off to get the rest of the stuff done today. I'd like to not go down again until Monday.

Oh this year they are doing pictures with Macaw's and Cockatoos.

Well, I'm off to take my Mother to Hearing Aide office for checking and cleaning... in Ventura, so will be gone for awhile.. I just picked an enormous amount of tomatoes... two huge baskets and we picked two baskets full two days ago.. my sister took tons home to make sauce... the yellow tomato plant for sure is yielding more than I ever imagined...wish I had started counting them as it will be way over 100 tomatoes for sure...

I sure hope that Deli owner decides to net off the 8" wide area alongside his building to prevent this from happening again

Glad Mr Hawk was able to be rescued! This has to be a rather infrequent event i suspect. Given the odds, i dont think this would happen again unless he decided to return after his release to get whatever he was chasing.

A netting material over the gap would be a good thing though. But perhaps just attaching some roofing flashing over the roof's edge would be cheaper and require less maintenance and also prevent other things from being caught in the netting.

Look at the right side of the tree.

<::: BANDIT UPDATE

Bandit is doing well. No apparent injuries from her fall.

"HER" flight feathers aren't quite grown in yet so she will be kept at O.W.L. until she's ready for release.

Yes, HER -- she's big, heavy and quite likely FEMALE. Of course, only blood work would prove that but her size is a big indication.

Pictures will be forth coming later. Chris is in the middle of doing a computer back up first and will be sending the photos when she has a chance.

I will post all further updates at O.W.L's thread:
