Farewell Delta 1 Eagles Click image for Video by beans (4:40 ) Get your tissues out Some more guestions answered about Bandit #1 How do you capture birds of prey and what kind of net do you use? In the smaller cages we use either a small blanket after walking them into a corner or if they gets too stressed then we would go in with a long handled net that has had the netting changed to a softer herring net. They are still cornered but they usually aren't as afraid. Then we close in and handle them to get them from under the net. In Field Flights , the 300 foot cage, we close the sliding doors down to a 30ft cage area , again trying to corner them on the ground. Some will keep flying around at that time. We just judge the flight then let them fly into the net. As they land we follow down with the net and keep them covered. The net we use doesn't cover the whole body so they can still use wings and feet to land properly. #2 Why is Bandit gripping the perch in a different manner than his Buddy? Yes he will improve on his standing and gripping ability . If you watch old footage of the Sidney nest you can see them learn on branches in nest. Bandit hasn't had that practice as you guessed. Our perches are not all the same consistency either . We have some of the perches wrapped in differnt sizes of ropes so this also will adjust how he stands on perches in the future. |

![]() I have been wanting to share "our tree" since a previous discussion of a very old tree here in chat. Hope you enjoy the loving words on a quiet Sunday. . . . The "Big Tree" at Goose Island State Park was named the State Champion Coastal Live Oak (Quercus virginiana) in 1969, and is thought to be one of the largest in the nation. The "Big Tree" numbers: Trunk Circumference: 35 feet 1 and 3/4 inches or 10.71 meters Average Trunk Diameter: 11 feet 2 and 1/4 inch or 3.41 meters Crown Spread: 89 feet or 27.1 meters Height: 44 feet or 13.4 meters Age: In excess of 1,000 years Plaque at the front of the Big Tree by John E. Williams: Welcome to my home. I am a live oak tree and I am very old. I have seen spring return more than a thousand times. I can remember hundreds of hurricanes, most I'd rather forget, but I withstood. There was a big fire once. I have fires. Around me are my offspring. We are an old-dune woodland community. We provide shelter and acorns for squirrels, jays, raccoons, bobwhite, deer, javelina, and most other members of our community. For most of my life I belonged only to myself. Now I belong to you, or so I'm told. Humpf! Branch breakers and root tramplers the lot of you. Some years ago someone came and patched my cracks, trimmed my dead branches, killed my pests and healed my fungus rots. Was that you? I'm feeling much better, thank you. I am tired now. You may leave me in peace when you are ready to go. Please leave my home as you found it. I have important things to do. The seasons are changing again and I must get ready. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Big Tree by Mary Hoekstra, Rockport I have gathered sun and rain to grow green leaves, Swaying softly in spring, rustling like applause in fall. My limbs have shaded generations; My roots have reached for centuries; My children and their children's children surround me, Here in this peaceful part of my land. Golden sunlight diamonds have glinted on the ground around me. Cold fingers of ice have touched my heartwood. Dust-dry days of sandstorms have scoured my skin. Torrents of rain, driven by gales have rushed at me, And I have swayed, but stayed unbroken. Silver moonlight has kept me company many a night. Yet through all the seasons, sorrows, bitterness, and beauty, All of the history I have withstood and witnessed, There has been one thing I could not do. I could not grow green dollars, or silver, or gold. Will you help me, standing here before me? Then we may both grow old together, As old friends should, One of flesh, one of wood. |

Hey George Who geths the green hat and who get the green hat???? Does that mean you'll be flapping your way everywhere? Much easier getting around. Happy birthday Kathie. Have a great day. This time the ghost tapped the end of my bed four times. I tried to reproduce it by moving around....no such luck. I have a water bed so I felt it very much. Not going fishing today...just going to get ready for my BBQ. Cricket was wondering about that mango salsa...that sounds good. Is it in our recipe collection? I'm gone to look for it. Hikers....can't believe it already time for the family to be here. How exciting. Harpo.....glad that happy trails existed. With and without bears. I could do without seeing the bear thank you!!! |

Penny & Marti. I have no clue where the battery itself is located. The Doctor kept the wrapper that John John had in his mouth. Guess he didn't want a Law Suit over that! I told Maria NOT to take John John back there, but she paid in advance for next week, and has no other place at this time. She is in the process of looking for a good one. Both Cecilia and Robert John were both in this one growing up. The only thing happened was Rob was bitten on his spine by the Owners son! That would have been enough for me. Maria's husband wants her to work no matter what! She has been Unemployeed for 1 1/2 years now since the accident when she lost Baby Laura. John's Back Account had dwindled way down. Sandie I put 2 Mango Salsa Recipe's in the Exchange. The one has NO HEAT at all, but does have strawberries. I add mint to that for a little extra freshness. The other has jalapeno's, and so does my red one. I did not make the one w/o the jalapenos. |

![]() something you don't see everyday - a jet being refueled in flight!! Phil resting with the crew - I think they wanted to "flush" Phil - Phil had an accident (ES picked out all the spines ) ![]() Phil learns about fly fishing - he is well cared for by the crew! - turns out he's not into sushi but cheese and crackers (plus fish were hard to come by on the trek) -and there was a little down time so Phil did get to "swim"! ![]() Mt Phillips sunset all clickables |
