Agave in bloom at NBG

Posted Image

Is it true that after blooming the agave plant dies?

Penny: I believe this is also known as the Century Plant as it only blooms once every 100 years...and then dies.

Lala: good luck at the fair...I can't go until NEXT week as I have a Liaison Committee meeting with our management tomorrow. My favorite fair food is french fried artichoke hearts with cocktail sauce...didn't see any two years ago...keep your eyes open for them for me, ok??

Sandie: that doggie is a Papillon...I think ElaineRuth has one? And dogs can still run free on Bates beach...at least they could when we lived down on Bates Rd several years ago. Lucky (Rhodesian Ridgeback/Lab mix) and I would walk my son to the busstop then a run/fetch/swim/run on the beach for Lucky....wonderful place in the early morning hours and fall/winter.

Vina is doing pretty well...she's home, Tom administering her meds instead of visiting nurses, is going up and down stairs on her own (or with help?)...still a long road to go but short amount of time in the realm of a lifetime...is at the doctor today for first checkup since going home.

ER - no didn't see last few posts yesterday - I called it a night kind of early!

Thanks - in Gary's photos from NM - their crew consisted of Gary - 2 other leaders and 9 scouts (1 of the leaders was there with his 2 sons and the other leader was there with his son) The person carrying the flag was a scout - every crew is given and carry an American flag while on their treks throughout the mountains!

As to me - I've been a boy scout leader for over 25 years because at the initial meeting that I attended with my son - no one else wanted to be bothered! My son reached over and raised my hand and said "my mom will do it" and here I still am! My son is now 35! And thanks to him - I have hundreds of "step" sons and I love them all - each are so individual and it's wonderful to watch them grow into young men - caring people - dedicated to what they do!

It's a shame how many parents still don't want to take a little time to get to know their kids or spend any significant time with them. :( so I'm very happy to do it! I never look out of place nor feel out of place! Out of place - I find that a really odd comment ............

This year at summer camp with my troop - I went as the leader (no parents came forward) - the other leader is a man whose youngest son is 26 but he continues with the troop for the same reason that I do ..... to make a difference! If I didn't go to camp - the scouts couldn't go ..... :(

One other guy who went for a few days was one of my scout's uncle! Dad is not a camper and has a hard time getting away from his job so his uncle very happily volunteered to come and share some of the fun and spend time with his nephew. The other guy is a father of one of the boys. The lady that joined us this year is a mom to 2 of our boys! This was her first adventure with our boys and I'm thinking that it won't be her last - she was blown away at having an opportunity to see these young men in a whole different light! She has a new found respect for both of her boys!

I think it's fantastic that you are so involved with the Boy Scouts Deb! :><:

I don't think Sandie meant anything by her comment, probably just because you were at the back barely seen in the picture!

I agree with you that it is a shame that so many parents don't take the time to get to know their kids. They're too busy trying to acquire things IMHO.

Keep up the great work! Those kids need you & ES! :D

Deb, our 3 boys were all scouts and the training stays with them all their lives!
We were in a similar situation once when the boys cub scout den needed a den mother. We were all at a scout dinner. So HWCT volunteered and, as a Special Forces LTC at the time, had those little kids toeing the line and they had a ball!! They learned some things that weren't in the book!!
